In another one of those long stretches of Kaiba's work, Atem had turned up at the office. It hadn't been the usual show-up-out-of-nowhere, either. This surprise trip had been after a couple of weeks away in a tournament. Kaiba seemed to be a little unfazed at his arrival, however. Hours of doing puzzles had eventually taken their usual toll on his eyes.
A few times he rubbed them before going back to work, the sun eventually sinking low before disappearing completely from the city. Kaiba had warned there would be no going home tonight, and perhaps Atem thought he could coerce the other. In fact, he had been very much hoping that would have been the case. Kaiba just kept on working, though, and soon he forgot all about that, turning on his side, lying down and snuggling up into the crook of his own arm.
He barely even remembered turning up in Kaiba's office at all when he opened his eyes next- and he certainly had remembered going home to the mansion. But he seemed to be in the brunet's bed, still clothed, and quite alone. Something felt off about it, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what exactly that was. Once he stood the room seemed to grow warmer somehow, and his voice was quieter than he expected as he called out-
"Hello?"
