Kaiba Seto's day was quickly falling apart from a bad few hours to an absolute nightmare. Sure, Pegasus had approached him to join in this little escapade. He was probably the only one who could fetch a price as good or better than Atem's. Of course, that hope was quickly crushed when the mailed invitation had been sent back as a pile of shredded paper and ashes. Pegasus hadn't even bothered to call after that.
But what else could Kaiba do once he saw the report that the King of Games would be up for auction? Secret or not, it was his rival that had been put up at the mercy of the fangirls and doses with wine. Kaiba was practically shaking with repressed rage before even making the event.
There was no way for him to go in without making a scene, either. The press of fangirls was just too much to overcome. So it was a suit jacket and sunglasses-less Isono who raised his hand for the first bid while his boss lurked about outside. He would pay the man for the embarassment later.
This was the last place on earth he wanted to be in. On stage, being bid on like a piece of meat, being grabbed at by crazed fangirls, and Pegasus just off-stage. He didn't remember signing whatever it was that Pegasus was going on about. Nothing he'd done with that man could have dated back that far- not even Duelist Kingdom. But then maybe when he was told he'd be getting Yuugi out of it
( ... )
"Seto-sama, we're down to only one other person," Isono said quietly into his lapel pin. "The price is rising as quickly as you suspected."
Through the staticky sounds of the radio, Kaiba's soft breathing and some metal clanging could be heard. "Good," Kaiba replied. "Now crush her and end this charade. I think I found a way into the back. Pegasus isn't leaving without hearing from me." That was a promise, even if it made finding a secret way in a little harder. He couldn't afford to have a smudge on his white suit if he was going to chew someone out.
Isono just smiled faintly. "Understood, sir," he murmured into the pin before raising the bid by another thousand dollars.

Atem hadn't been noticing how quickly whenever he set his glass down someone close by had been refilling it. Even if he hadn't finished, they'd just top it back up. It kept him very loose, at least, no problems to be had- which was probably the point.
The woman was getting quite agitated however, turning to Isono with a very heated glare. "You! Stop your bidding! You have no idea how long I've waited for the chance of a night with him!" Her voice was shrill, worse so because she was shrieking throughout. She was sweating now, obviously aware that her funds would soon see their top off limit. Yet she turned to raise her hand and bid yet again. Atem just watched the show with mild disinterest, shifting in his chair slightly.
Isono, by comparison, looked calm and composed if not a little bit sad. Unlike his boss, he took no pleasure in ruining someone's day. But orders were orders.
"I'm sorry, madam," he said quietly, "but I have been asked to ensure my bids win this auction. There are many other fine young men to be shown later, I think." He looked back at the auctioneer by the stage. "And now I think I will raise the bid by another thousand."

"I don't want any other men! I WANT HIM!" The last bit was screamed in English, giving away that she had come from a very long way away to get this. Her accent up until then had been at least very good.
Yet after screaming she seemed to be thinking it over. She was going to go for a payout and hope that this man would not go any higher. In fact, she was so sure that would happen she even calmed a little. "For my little Duel King I will offer one million higher!" Bringing the total up to an astounding amount.
Atem just arched a brow, sitting back sluggishly in his seat as the lights on the stage were getting too bright for him to deal with. He hadn't been found of that 'little' remark.
Of course you should.shutupandduelmeJune 18 2011, 20:03:11 UTC
"Be that as it may," Isono replied, still calm and in slightly accented English, "I am not going to lose this auction. I am sorry, madam."
His gaze turned once again to the auctioneer. "One million, five hundred thousand more," he said coolly. Seto was going to have a fit at the price, he knew, but he did say to crush the woman. Hopefully all of his aggression would have been outlet at Pegasus by the time they discussed it.
but I don't reallynote_atemJune 19 2011, 06:30:49 UTC
The woman went pale at that and visibly retreated. Her head bowed, in thought at first, wondering if she could dare to spend that much on a supposed one-night stand. In the end she just stepped back. She could not, no matter how much she wanted to.
"Once. Twice. Sold!" Atem rolled his eyes, thankful to be out of that situation. Whoever it was that had bought him he'd have to put up with, but later. For now, an arm was thrown around his shoulder as the crowd was thanked. Isono was told to provide his information on a handy little sheet that was suddenly shoved in his face as Atem was pulled from the spotlight rather roughly.
Isono hesitated, his mouth pulling into a frown as he saw the contract. "This is a required date?" he asked disapprovingly. "I thought this was just for charity..."
He didn't get a chance to finish his thought. There was what sounded like a scuffle right behind the stage, before a man stepped out with his head held high. With that white suit and those blazing blue eyes, there was no mistaking who he was.
"You all should be ashamed," Kaiba said sharply as his eyes drifted over the crowd. "Do you want a Duelist or a piece of meat? Can't you catch his attention by yourself?" He smirked maliciously. "Clearly not, if you can't even notice he doesn't want to be here. Go slobber over someone more on your level....or perhaps you might consider actually giving that money to charity."
Sorry I kinda just stared at this page for ten minutes. It's been a long daynote_atemJune 20 2011, 05:34:22 UTC
The crowd looked up, some bothered, some unamused, some upset, some unaffected. In the end a bunch of people were talking at Kaiba, most of them women- all of them defending their rights to be here and to do whatever they wanted with their money.
"Come now, Kaiba-boy~." Pegasus' drawl started in as he stepped onto stage, Atem in tow, hand still on the shorter's shoulder. "No need to ruin everyone's evening!"
Atem was trying to shrug him off but the man's grip seemed firm. He was growling about something or other but in his dazed state it was hard to make out what. For now he'd deemed getting Pegasus away from him more important than being understood.

"I'll ruin it as I please," Kaiba replied sharply, his eyes shifting to Pegasus. The arguments of the insects around him went unheard. "Now you will release him, if you ever want to use him as an advertisement again. Every minute you continue this charade you damage his standing as a Duelist."
He frowned deeply, eyes sweeping the crowd again until he noticed Isono. The bodyguard gave an imperceptible nod.

Pegasus grinned that usual wide, uneven grin, his hand shifting to Atem's back before giving him a very light shove. The other jerked forward, catching himself quite skillfully despite the consumed alcohol.
"He's yours. You paid for him, isn't that right?"
Atem's hands clenched at his sides as he shot Pegasus a glare that used to be accompanied with the words 'mind crush'. "I don't belong to anyone." Despite marks of the usual nature or claims by the very same CEO standing on stage with him. "This has gone on long enough." Despite Atem's tough attitude, it only had Pegasus snickering and grinning more. The usual.
I did that a while ago too!shutupandduelmeJune 20 2011, 06:20:38 UTC
Kaiba managed to hold back the snarl as Atem was shoved forward. He had been trying not to blow their cover on this little adventure, and Pegasus was a deceptively shrewd man. He couldn't risk anything leaking. As such, he didn't even look at the shorter man.
"I paid to end this nonsense," he snapped instead. "Get out before I seriously consider renegotiating our contract. This sort of suicidal business practice, destroying the reputation of your best advertisement, is not something I think I can support."

"You were the one who barged in here!" The older man said through still a fit of laughter. "And I have more on the venue~. Somehow I think your care and attention ends with him, isn't that right Kaiba-boy?" He tilted his head, silver hair covering his eyes before he threw his head back and laughed.
Atem, on the other hand, was experiencing a new kind of drunk. He never partook much in alcohol but when he did his emotions were usually the same, if not more clingy or susceptible to nonsense. This time he was just angry. And the more he watched the other, the more he had to listen to his voice, the angrier he became. It got to the point if his nails digging into the skin of his palms, his whole body shaking with how rigid it had gone.
This would not end well and he was about to call the other out into a duel. And then who knew what would happen after he'd crushed him into the dust.
"Ooo~ I think your date is giving me some very angry eyes, Kaiba-boy. You'd better take him outside for some fresh air!" More laughter.
The brunet's lip curled in a sneer and he was about to speak when Atem forced his way in. The sneer turned quickly to a cool stare, Kaiba stepping back and crossing his arms over his chest. As far as he was concerned, he was now in a position of power. There was certainly no incentive for him to step in and stop his rival, now was there?
"You seem to be under the mistaken impression that I can do anything about it," he commented in a disinterested tone. "And you know as well as I do what those 'angry eyes' can mean. Will you give me a reason as to why I should have anything to do with this at all?"
He was being ignored. And talked over. That only made the feeling worse but perhaps he'd let Kaiba handle it. The swirl in his head was becoming a headache and he wanted less and less to do with any of this.
"You may have sent your assistant in here to do all your dirty work but somebody's money is paying for him." A very antagonizing glance and grin at Atem that had the shorter bristling again. "And somebody's signature is on some very legally binding documents, Kaiba-boy~." Ones that did not have loopholes.
The glare thrown at Pegasus got even worse before he turned, however hard it was to do so. "I've had enough of this." He was leaving. Now if only he could stop wobbling and perhaps find the exit.
"Better escort your date outside Kaiba-boy! Looks like he might not make it past the parking lot!" Another shrill laugh sounded in the air. Atem might have made a move at decking the man just then if he hadn't known that doing anything rushed right now would land him on his face.
