Pokemon! It's the only way of life in this world. And there's one trainer who's on top of it all. That mysterious looking young man with the shady back story that no one seems to know- but he's kind to most and definitely a challenge. He's stopped in from the Johto region for a little rest right now. Luck would have it that you're here too.

POKEMON AU THAT'S RIGHT and there will be probably more to come. Guess this is just an introductory stance, stretch your AU wings with this one. )

Nearby, at a nearby river:

"C'mon! You can do it! I know you can!"

Yuugi can be heard cheering for.. something, over the rushing water, the soft sound of water upon rocks as it moved along, and the soft almost desperate splashing in said water, disrupting the current.

...Yes, he's trying to teach his Magikarp how to swim.

Of course, the short oddly hairstyled boy wearing leather wasn't alone. His Espeon was dozing nearby, not too keen to letting his trainer go out on his own for too long. Not with Rockets around, of course.

There was nothing really there for him to do in the area. As usual he was just town hopping, going from one place to the next in search of more pokemon. And more Rockets. But for right now they didn't seem to be around, so he was free to have a general happy attitude about him.

The shouting caught his attention, veering his Rapidash just off towards it, taking off at top speed before the horse jumped off a small cliff and veered into the embankment where the other trainer was ...

Atem's eyebrow arched as he smiled. "Training?" At least that's what it looked like.

Espeon's ear twitched, but he didn't have to open his eyes to keep track of the new trainer. Yuugi however looked up with wide eyes, both surprised and in awe of the sudden arrival. However, seeing how the Pokemon came with a trainer on top of it, he relaxed into a more sheepish posture.

"Nn!" He nodded, glancing back to his Magikarp, smile remaining. "I know he has the potential to be really strong, so I'm giving him some exercise before we fight in another match!" Gods only knew how long he was there for.

A moment passed of awkward Magikarp flailing before he blinked up at Atem. "Sorry... I hope I didn't disturb you at all.."

He dismounted off the horse, giving her a quick pat on the side. She responded with a soft whinny before trotting off a little distance away to go drink in the river. It gave Atem a moment to approach the other trainer closer and take a look into said river to get a look at that Magikarp.

He knew anyone who was training one had the patience of a saint. But the other was right, so he gave a strong nod and a smile full of approval. "Looking for a Gyarados one day?" Of course that must have been the end result. And it would be magnificent.

Still, the little after thought took him by surprise. "You didn't. I'm just traveling around with Rapidash." Nothing to attend to.

"It would be nice, but I'm not pressuring him to evolve. I just want to make sure he gets enough exercise." After his victory against the Johto region's Pokemon League, he didn't feel like he was in a rush to move on. Johto was nice... sure, it wasn't Kanto, and he missed his Grandpa's shop in Celadon.. but it was also nice and quiet without having to worry about deadlines and trainer brackets and the massive crowds that came to watch and the pressure..

He could focus on just... training his Pokemon. Making sure they were eating right and playing enough, though he could already hear his grandfather giving him another lecture about how boys his age shouldn't want to be 'prettying' up their Pokemon or be breeders or whatever.

He dismissed his thoughts quickly and glanced over at the Rapidash. "I bet you see a lot with her, huh? She looks really strong..." Fast, too, he wanted to add, but figured that was too much rambly because duh, everyone knew Rapidashes were fast.

"That's the key." Atem said almost a little too quietly for his own tastes. It was refreshing to see trainers who weren't after the greatest title in life. Who didn't just want the strongest pokemon as a prize or another badge in their case so to speak. Pokemon were living breathing creatures. He hated when people forgot that.

He looked back out to Rapidash with a soft smile. "She's been with me since the beginning." A very unusual starter, but she was his and he never looked back.

Yuugi wasn't sure if the words were directed to him, so he didn't say anything about them, instead going back to watching the Magikarp splash around. A whole progress of a foot or so had been made since we last left our poor flailing fish.

"You're very lucky, then, to start with such a beautiful Pokemon." He commented, almost shyly. Indeed, from what he could see, he could tell Atem took care of his Rapidash. She was well groomed, and her fire was very bright and lively. He gave his Espeon a gentle rub to his head.

"He was my first. I'm lucky to have him, too!" The Espeon yawned a bit, shifting some in his sleep but seeming to not awaken yet.

His gaze shifted down to the Espeon he'd somehow not noticed until that moment. It did his heart well to see one so lackadaisical and content. He smiled at the two of them.

"I'm sure he knows how lucky he is to have you, as well." Yuugi was the very best material for a pokemon trainer. Now if only the world were full of more people like him it would have been a better place to be.

Yuugi smiled at that, though he blushed at the compliment, regardless. Considering how often he was picked on and bullied by more 'aggressive' trainers (and then even moreso afterward, when they realized he could beat them) for being a wuss or whatever, or how Jou always told him to look out for trainers who were suspicious, who could've been a part of Team Rocket..

"Good job today, Magikarp! You can rest now, alright?" He enlarged the Pokeball and pressed the button, allowing the light to emerge and surround the bobbing fish Pokemon. "We'll train some more again tomorrow!"

With one last 'kaaaarp' of tiredness, the fish was returned. Once he was, the ball was returned to his belt and he slowly stood up, dusting himself off in the process. Not that he was in a hurry or anything, but it was definitely easier to talk to someone on a similar level, instead of having to look down so much.

"Any Pokemon's lucky to have a trainer who cares." In other words, what he did wasn't anything special.. not to him, at least.

The blush was noted, though he wasn't really sure what to do with it. He was positive it wasn't directed at him, more at the words. He was fine with that scenario. So, this trainer was a modest one. What he said after recalling his pokemon only solidified that fact.

"But your pokemon are lucky to have you. They could easily have ones that don't." He tried to push the thought a little harder. He didn't see a reason for Yuugi not to think a little better of himself. Especially not when he was doing a fine job of raising his pokemon. Rapidash looked up from the river to give a little whinny of approval-

Though that was probably a late reply to being called beautiful. Atem rolled his eyes with a smirk, knowing that's exactly what it was.

Yuugi laughed softly, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "That's.. very true. Thank you very much." It would've been odd to say anything more, considering who he was talking to. Of course Yuugi knew who the champion was of all the regions was. While Yuugi's name was listed in the top ranks of the league matches he was in, he was mostly a local hero.

It was a big deal to be complimented by someone so famous.

The horse's whinny made him laugh again, though more earnestly and less awkwardly this time. "I've just... done a lot of reading, I guess. I like reading up on what Pokemon like and don't like.. which I guess is kind of boring for some people, but it worked for my grandfather when he used to be a serious trainer, so..."

...was he rambling again? Oh dear.

The smile was much simpler now, gentler. A hand went to his hip in a small and easy gesture. Probably one he'd done a thousand times and never noticed. He hadn't then, either.

"Following in his footsteps?"

"You could say that." Yuugi nodded, and smiled back. Sure. We'll stick with that. Not how he looked up to the champion he was so casually talking to, the one he looked up to and secretly wished he could command his Pokemon like he did.

Talking about his Grandfather was significantly less awkward.

"Maybe one day I'll surpass him!" Though it was said in jest, considering how laid back his goals were. Though, talking about him was never his strong point, so..

"Are you from around here?"

"Maybe." He agreed with a grin, hoping to encourage the younger in his dreams. It always felt good to see up and coming trainers following their paths. It was what they were meant to do.

At the question he shook his head. "No, I'm actually heading back to Kanto, though." Making that his place of birth by context. "Just taking the more scenic route." It would have been easy to fly away or teleport perhaps. But where was the fun in that?

"What about you?"

"Really?! Me too!" Yuugi shouldn't have been so excited to find out they came from the same region, so he immediately tried to cut it back a little. "I.. I mean, I'm from Kanto, too! Celadon, actually.." Big city kid, only he wasn't very typical of being one.

"I like Celedon." It was where he'd gotten one of his very first tastes of victory against some Rocket Grunts. "I got my Eevee there." Saved it, really, but it couldn't hurt to say.

He reached to one of his belt loops to grab a pokeball without even looking. It was a swift and easy gesture before an Umbreon sat quietly next to her master's leg with watchful eyes.

"I'm from Vermilion."
