Cribbed from
secretive_bus - My (current) top twenty televised Doctor Who stories, in chronological order. I ummed and ahed about including the Eccleston stories, as they’re still rather fresh in my mind, but it’s rather nice seeing them as part of the whole :)
The Faceless Ones - it’s very 60s, withal its talk of “ray guns” and “earth men”, but very jolly.
The Evil of the Daleks - everything Doctor Who should be - epic, with a complex Doctor and genuinely threatening villains.
The Web of Fear - the classic base under siege
The Sea Devils - a great story for both Jo and the Delgado Master
The Curse of Peladon - the The End of the World of its era, and another great Jo story
Pyramids of Mars - hugely creepy and effective
Robots of Death - a story you generally wouldn’t be embaressed to show to a modern audience
The Talons of Weng Chiang - also hugely atmospheric
City of Death - just brilliant fun, and possibly Lalla Ward’s finest hour.
Logopolis - Baker back on form after being crap for a while
Castrovalva - A very interesting story, and a brilliant turn from Peter Davison
Enlightenment - practically perfect in every way
The Caves of Androzani - ditto
Terror of the Vervoids - Mainly for nostalgia reasons, but a great plot and monster. Shame about the dialogue…
Remembrance of the Daleks - proper drama, and the Daleks are a real threat again.
The Curse of Fenric - best Who story EVER.
Survival - a fitting end to the classic series - and Ainley’s actually good in this one!
Dalek - a great reintroduction for a classic monster. (Jubilee’s better, though!)
Father’s Day - brilliant emotional drama.
The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances - brilliant all-round Doctor Who.
