moving to Seattle?

I totally understand where you're coming from.

My husband and I are moving to Vancouver, WA in January. Reason: we want to buy a house. Also, my husband grew up in the area and has always wanted to go back, but that's the reason we chose *there* to move to. We'd probably move somewhere northwards regardless.

Portland, OR is a cool city, and I'll be working downtown (provided the transfer works out - keeping fingers crossed), and my commute shouldn't be any worse than it is now (San Jose/Mountain View). And we can get a pretty nice house for about $250k.

We almost bought a condo here a couple years ago - half a mil for a place that's about the same size as the apartment we're in now, and sharing the same number of walls, floors, ceilings, etc. I just can't make myself buy a "condo" for half a million where I end up still having to deal with apartment living situations.

I'll definitely miss the bay area, but I think I'll be happy there.

You'd have to become Mariners fans! ;) I'll probably always be a Giants fan, but we'll go to Mariners games from time to time - although it's a bit more of a drive from where we'll be.

I think you'll be happy there, too. Portland's a great town and I've heard good things about Vancouver, WA, as well.
