Appearance: Kurogane, as a ninja, has a striking appearance, even compared to others. Fai often calls him a villain, or more jokingly 'daddy', and those who meet him once tend not to forget him, if only because of the presence that he carries. Or maybe because of the fact that he was yelling at Fai for once again getting his name wrong!

Part of Kurogane's name means black, and it's very appropriate as Kurogane tends to favor black clothing above all others. No matter what the style is of the country, Kurogane wears black (in contrast with Fai who wears white). This clothing favors stealth, which probably has something to do with why he opts for the color, considering he's a ninja.

Kurogane has wide shoulders, and broad arms, a testament to his physical strength. There is no one that is stronger than him in Japan country, and he revels in that fact often. His body is easily used to fighting, and he can handle pain much better than any other person travelling with him. Out of convenience, Kurogane keeps his hair short and spiked, so it can't get into his crimson red eyes.

Personality: Kurogane is very, very easily embarassed. He is often flailing due to some comment or another from either Fai or Mokona, as both are able to get under his skin rather easily with the most childish of comments. One would almost believe him to be very immature himself, but Kurogane is very wise as well. And as easily as Fai can embarrass him, Kurogane can see right through Fai's guarded act of being a silly magician. Despite how much he shouts and flails and threatens to beat Fai up for his constant teasing, Kurogane does have a soft spot for the magician, and will go to any means to protect him. Even if it means knocking some sense into his little blond head.

Kurogane doesn't often see the point in worrying about things that one can't help, or wondering about the future, and instead focuses on what he hopes to accomplish. He doesn't let anything distract him from his goals, not even the most traumatizing of events, and instead focuses them into something to make his resolve and will stronger. Despite his tragic past, he doesn't dwell on how he could have changed it, and instead focuses on avenging his mother, while he aids his companions.

Also, Kurogane is competitive as hell. If challenged to ANYTHING, one can bet Kurogane is going to give it his all. He's aggressive, and not above starting a fight himself, if he thinks it might be worth it. However, he's a lot more careful about picking his fights, and how he decides to end them than he used to be because of the curse placed on him by one of the people he is most loyal to, Tomoyo-hime.

Abilities/Strengths: Kurogane is a ninja, with ninja fast reflexes. He is, hands down, the strongest person in Japan Country, which was originally why Tomoyo-hime sent him on a journey. He is very adept at hand-to-hand combat, and he's also skilled with most close range weapons, especially the sword.

His sword is the Souhi, and with it, he's able to do powerful attacks, such as the Hama Ryoujin. He can also sense presences.

Kurogane is also exceptionally good at reading people, and can tell when they're trying to hide something or lie to him, though he doesn't have the ability to see into their soul beyond that.

Weaknesses: Kurogane is very, very easily embarrassed. Likely, this won't affect him in a battle situation, but it's still worth noting.

Of more importance, however, is the face that Kurogane has a curse placed on him. For every person that he kills, his power will decrease.

History: Kurogane was born in the town of Suwa in Japan Country. For the first few years of his life, Kurogane had a happy life with his father, who was the master of Suwa, and his mother, who was its miko. However, that peace was not to last as his mother had tuberculeousis and the demons that attempted to pass through the kekkai she had placed to protect the town grew in number. One day, his father faced demons who were too strong.

So he returned home to claim the Ginryuu, a family heirloom. After the weapon had been blessed, Kurogane's mother insisted on being taken to the Inoribia, or Prayer Room. It was in this room that she was stabbed to death by a mysterious sword. Just as Kurogane saw this, the kekkai that had been protecting Suwa failed, with no miko to sustain it. The demons his father had went to fight entered the village, carrying his severred arm, still gripping the Ginryuu.

It was at that time that Kurogane lost himself in despair, and killed all the demons, and anything that would set foot near his mother's body. Hours later, Amaterasu, queen of Japan came to the county to find that all the demons that had attacked it had been killed by Kurogane, who was still clutching his mother's dead body. Originally, Amaterasu intended to subdue him herself, but her younger sister asked to be allowed to do this.

Tsukiyomi stopped Kurogane from being able to attack her, and approached him. She closed his mothers eyes, and asked if he would let her rest, and it was at that moment that Kurogane broke down into greif and went unconscious. When he next woke up, he was at the capital of Japan, and his wounds had been completely bandaged. Tsukiyomi, Miko of Japan, met him there, and was holding the ginryuu in her hands. She introduced herself as Tomoyo.

Kurogane asked that the Ginryuu be buried with his mother, since they didn't have his father's body. Tomoyo-hime agreed, and then told him that she would commission another sword just like it for him, so that he could fulfill the promise to grow stronger that he had made to his father.

Several years later, Kurogane was the strongest man in Japan, there were none stronger. It was at this point that Tomoyo sensed Sakura-hime's feathers had been scattered, and she sent Kurogane to the Witch of Dimensions, after placing a protective seal and a curse on him. The curse was that his power would weaken with each person that he killed. And with that, Kurogane was sent to Yuuko, arriving at the same time as three others.

Kurogane wished to return to Japan, and as a price, he paid Ginryuu. However, because there was no way to be able to return to Japan for the price he paid, he was forced to travel with Syaoran, Sakura, and Fai D. Flourite to collect Sakura-Hime's feathers. Often, on their travels, Kurogane was picked on by Fai and Mokona, who very easily were able to get under his skin.

The group first noticed that they were being followed and interfered with in Jade Country, where they had to unwravel the mystery of the blond haired princess, and for the first time, they faced an actual villain in Doctor Kyle.

The next time they faced a powerful villain, in Outo Country, where they first met Seishirou, Syaoran's mentor and teacher. It was also in Outo Country that Kurogane originally offered to teach Syaoran how to use the sword, while he and Syaoran worked as Kiji hunters. This was where Kurogane received his sword, Souhi. However, Outo turned out to be a digital simulation, and it was revealed that Seishirou had the feather that they sought. However, he left, leaving an unfinished fight between himself and Kurogane, taking the feather with him.

In Lecourt country, Syaoran managed to discover Kurogane's horrifying past-- and Kurogane learned from him that he had seen that symbol on the sword that stabbed his mother on the clothes of the people who had attacked Clow Country shortly before he and Sakura-him and been forced to leave. Kurogane took note of this, and told him not to worry.

As they grew closer to finding the feather, Kurogane and Syaoran battled the monsters in the Main Library, where the feather was hidden. Kurogane noticed that something strange was happening to Syaoran who changed and brutally defeated the library guardians to get the feather back. He snapped back to normal, however, and so Kurogane pushed the worry aside for the moment, as they had greater problems.

Fai saved them all from being killed, using his magic though he had sworn he wouldn't anymore, giving Makona a window of opportunity to transport them to Shaara country, where Ashura-ou paid the price for them to escape from Clow Reed's hold, and effectively changed the entire future of Shaara country.

After meeting another version of Tomoyo-hime in Piffle Country, as well as Doctor Kyle again, they landed in Tokyo, where everything started to go wrong. Fai also noticed Syaoran's stark change in fighting when he fought against Kamui, and asked that the next day when they went to earn their way in Tokyo that he be allowed to go with Syaoran instead of Kurogane. Kurogane agreed and stayed with Mokona and the princess.

While he was watching her, Sakura's soul went into a deep sleep, and he quickly carried her to to the upcoming outburst in the sanctuary where the water was stored. It was there that he saw that Syaoran had lost control again-- this time eating Fai's left eye to gain the man's magical power. Originally, Kurogane moved to stop him, demanding Souhi-- but Syaoran forced Mokona to give him his sword, Hiei.

Then, another Syaoran came to stop the one they had known-- revealing him to be just a clone. In the crossfire of their fight, because the original Syaoran could use magic as well, everything was destroyed and Kurogane awoke to find himself in Template.
