notbatwoman and I are the saddest people ever.
It's really quite pathetic...
We each went out Christmas shopping for each other yesterday. I had her real gift already but wanted to get some extra stuff for it. She ran out to get my gift. I gave her strict instructions to call before returning home, because I wanted to get hers all set. Mistakenly thinking that we were sane and working on a budget (which I traditionally blow because I do not understand what "responsible" is), I was expecting to be giving the big present this year, a 10 Gig iPod that I found pretty cheap (display model or "buyer's remorse" return) on eBay from an online store (which should be avoided by my experience -
Deal Express gave me much of the running around, which could be an entirely separate post.)
"What are you doing,
notbatman!!?? You just posted what you got your wife for Christmas on the internet!" I know, I know, we're really sad, I'm getting there.
So I spent the day loading it up with music. A frantic race against time to get as much as I could on it before she came home. Finally, she calls and says she's coming home and not five minutes later, the last of the music is loaded up. I quickly get rid of the evidence, shoving it all back in the packaging, and wait.
NBW comes home, runs her packages into her closet and comes back to my office and sits down, and announces her dilemma. "I just want to give it to you now." "I know, me too!" I made a (moderately) valiant effort at resisting, explaining how sad that would make us. In the end, we decided that waiting for a day that neither of us really cared about anyway was silly.
So, without the holiday traditions of wrapping paper and trees, we exchanged gifts last night.
Turns out she and
conandammit had spent the day looking at digital SLR cameras and totally blew me away. There was much justification and rationalization (pointing out that she had lined up a couple people to help contribute towards it). And it makes me sick to my stomach just thinking about it, but I have one of the sweetest cameras I've ever seen. Witness, the glory and the horror, that is my
Canon EOS Digital Rebel.
Easily twice the camera I need, but oh so lovely...
