LJ Idol - Week 31: Unexplored Country OR Things I Didn't Mean OR Moving TargetAt our house our five year-old son Hunter and I will play a game called "Lickle." Yeah, it's pretty much exactly what it sounds like. A lot like "tickle," but, you know, with licking. (Please don't call Social Services.) I don't remember when or how this started, but it's ( Read more... )

Oh jeepers. Every parent's worst nightmare. I still have flashbacks of my daughter losing the tip of her finger (you can't tell which one it was now, thank goodness) and I can imagine how it would be infinitely worse if it had been me that shut the door on her. I really feel for both of you.

Thank you. Having to tell the doctor that I may have broken both his knees was probably one of the most horrible things I've ever had to do.

It's great that kids bounce back when they're that small, but damn...

Yikes -- poor little guy!!

I'll never forget when my older sister was pushing our younger sister, a toddler, down a baby slide - and Bek pushed too hard, and the baby tipped forward and faceplanted. She hit the TV stand (our FIRST mistake - placement of the slide) and came up screaming with a small gash over a giant purple goose egg. I felt like Jack the Ripper, and I wasn't even the one who pushed her!

Luckily, she rebounded quickly as well - although not quickly enough to keep our mom from noticing...

It's great that kids bounce back from that kind of thing, but it's so horrible when it happens.

I did, a little. I still remember the horrible sinking feeling in my gut when I thought I may have crippled my son. There was also a part of me that was convinced that we'd be under investigation after the ER visit. Nothing much came of it in the end, but I still get terrible flashbacks sometimes. (Even more when I'm dwelling on the story, of course.)

Lickle carries on, though, because it is absurdly fungross most of the time.

(And we recently bought a new couch which is too low for anything to get under it.)

Holy crap! I did not expect that ending. Serves me right to think that this was going to be all light-hearted only to get stabbed in the gut.

Great job!

Sorry about that. Figured the game needed some explanation and context, before diving into the horrible part.

Thanks!

It really was horrible.

(And that seems to be the only word I have to describe it.)
