Liberate America

Mar 27, 2003 10:00

I drive around and you cannot avoid all the lawn signs. "Support Our Troops", "No War in Iraq", and "Liberate Iraq."

I want to make a "Liberate America" sign and post that on my lawn. Seriously, the country's going to shit. I'm not a terribly subversive person. Mostly, I think, because I can't be bothered enough to care, but more and more I'm just getting sick to death of all this bullshit.

(hey, look! I figured out how to do that cut thing!)

And it just gets better and better. This new shit with Halliburton "winning" the contracts to rebuild Iraq and their oil pipeline and such. I mean, are you fucking kidding me?? Meanwhile (Lon) Cheney rushes (will rush?) off to Jordan to try and prevent his daughter from volunteering as a human shield.

And the whole "War on Iraq" in the first place. Excuse me, but don't you sort of have to have at least some parity of forces before you can call it a war? Yes, American troops have died, more will, but a war? No, I'm sorry. This is the sole Superpower walking in and stomping on a much smaller country. Oh, wait, it's a pre-emptive strike. Because Hussein was calling everyone he could find and telling them he was going to attack us (hello, North Korea, how are you today?).

I mean, I support our troops and all that, I feel for them and I think it sucks, with the exception of the whiny bitches who signed on for a free college education and then complain when they're asked to fight. YOU JOINED THE FUCKING ARMY, WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN???

How many have died to protect my freedoms, blah blah blah. I wish they could all come back tomorrow, safe and sound, grow old with wonderful families and all that, I really do. The problem is the corrupt and underhanded politicians are the ones sending them out there and putting them in harms way.

And really, how many *have* died to protect our freedoms lately anyway? We got our freedom long ago and have had to defend it a few times since (in actual armed conflicts). Is Iraq threatening our freedom? Our peace? Well, if they have the power they certainly will now, I think we've managed to assure that much.

No, we've got plenty of people in Washington threatening our peace and our freedoms.

You know what else really bothers me on a more immediate, visceral, and uncontrollable-rage sort of way? The lawn signs are bad enough, but what I really hate are the people standing on sidewalks with signs. The occasional demonstration or protest is all well and good, I suppose. (Reference the unbelievable scale of demonstrations over this war). But I swear to you, there is a mass of people on a bridge near my house every Wednesday for the past TWO YEARS AT LEAST [EDIT: Actually, more like seven years. Seven. I shit you not.] holding signs about relieving sanctions and stuff (now it's more of a "no war" bent).

Every Wednesday from about 4:30 to about 6.

Seriously.

"I'm going to stand up for what I believe. I'm going to make a difference. I going to make my voice be heard. I'm going to make real changes in this country. I'm going to STAND ON THE SIDE OF THE FUCKING ROAD HOLDING A SIGN."

(It was the same during the last election, people standing EVERYWHERE with stupid grins and signs saying "Vote for Shithead." I wanted to kill. I blame CIA MK-ULTRA mind-control experiments because I really don't understand why this invokes such a strong reaction in me.)

Anyone who's opinion is subject to being changed by a lawn sign or a shithead on the side of the road holding up traffic and a sign should be impaled on said sign (and boiled in their own Christmas Pudding to boot!)

Where the fuck was I?

Oh, right. Making Liberate America signs but not being able to care enough to bother.

*sigh*
