This is not a voice post. So be FULLY PREPARED for it to be 87% less fun and awesome than my last couple entries have been. But, what can I say...For a free Plus account, I only get 5 VP's a month. So I have to ration.
I went to the movies by myself yesterday, which I'd feel worse about, but I don't. Chrystelle and I are...not really hangy-outy anymore. And...I have so few other people that live in this area to hang out with. AND my dad would never ever want to see Dan In Real Life. Two points of interest about my movie-going experience:
1) DiRL was awesome. It has joined the ranked of Lost In Translation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Stranger Than Fiction in my internalized realm of "Movies That Are Of Just Unapproachable Awesomeness". I want to see it again right now. There was so much real emotion and complex feelings going on in it, that I couldn't help but feel like I was watching REAL PEOPLE. Which is all I really ever want: characters that are portrayed not AS characters, but as REAL human beings. I really think everyone needs to run out and see this immediately, especially if you like any of the aforementioned movies. The only problems I think this flick had: It wraps up too nicely, and there are scenes I think written just to have Dane Cook sing. Dane Cook was surprisingly not obnoxious and scenery-chewing in this. Good work for being an average actor, Dane.
2) I may take flack for this, but I don't care. In the last 3 weeks, I've seen 3 movies: Harry Potter 5, 30 Days of Night, and Dan in Real Life. All, I have seen at a Carmike Cinema (booooo, but it's so much closer than Loew's or Destinta, both of which hold my movie-going heart). And all have preceded the Previews with a music video by 3 Doors down about the National Guard. I hate this. I don't really care about the National Guard, and a 5-6 minute long music video keeping me from my precious movie is not helping. Especially a bad music video by a bad music band. "Cit-i-zen Sol-jer! Turning The Lights Out!" Okay, I don't really know if they say "turning the lights out", because the song and video are so fucking bad, they make me want to eat my own arm. It is the right number of syllables, though.... Also, I find it vaguely humorous there are so many commercials to join the armed forces. There aren't any commercials for, say, Human Resource Developers. They could sing about that... "Re-source De-vel-o-pers! Turning The Lights Out!" You know why that might be? Resource Developers aren't sent away to fight unwinnable wars that they have no business being in; putting their innocent lives on the line for unknown reasons. So since Resource Developers aren't dying by the hundreds every month, we don't need to advertise for them to join up. This is really going in a direction I didn't intend. The gyst is: 3 Doors Down and Carmike Cimemas: I hate you. And get your crap out of my life and replace it with more movie previews. Or, at least, another My Coke Rewards commercial. I could stand to see that another 848 times, too.
All right, time to select an icon for this. Let's go with Mrs. Featherbottom. Ta-da.
