Well, choking people is fun, too. Various crimes or what not can be fun in a harmless play environment. Just like shooting a gun. Shooting a target piece of paper is incredibly non-different to me than going and choking a dummy or robbing a set-up fake bank. They promote physical on-duty training in an activity that serves no useful function to society. Is it likely I could go to a rape range, attack and assault a dummy and then never rape anyone ever in real life? Of course. But still...why promote it as acceptable?
Now video games and paintball and laser tag are different. They are separate activities that are used to promote individual fun and teamwork and harmless joy. Your paintball rifle isn't going to be used to accidenally shoot your child and kill them. Your XBox controller isn't going to be used against you by a home invader.
I don't think hunting is morally wrong. I think it's stupid wrong. There's no competition, there's no obstacle. It's you with your developed human brain and your high-powered rifle and your scope and your tree stand and your deer urine and your everything else vs an animal that has no idea what is going on. What's the point? Seems silly to me. If there was some kind of hunting where it was just me + loincloth vs. nature...THAT'D be fun. I don't mind killing animals for food. It's their own fault for being so delicious. And I say this as a completely doofball animal lover who coos over bunnies and koalas and kitties. Cows are tasty and I want to eat them all. :)
Um, but choking people isn't fun. You'd have been a psycho to think that. Shooting a gun, however, does not harm anyone inherently and can be fun for reasons 100% unrelated to killing people. When I shoot a gun, I am not thinking "gee what would it be like if there was a person there?", I am thinking "how am I gonna aim this properly? How am I going to improve my hand eye coordination?" etc.
Honestly, if they had rape ranges or whatever, I'm not actually positive I would have a problem with it. Better to do it virtually than in real life. I think people who are extremely messed up sometimes need an outlet for their urges that don't harm anyone. Like, I'm not really against hentai games with rape in them or whatever.
Going to a shooting range promoted individual fun, teamwork, and harmless joy. I still don't really see the difference.
