So...Tropic Thunder was about one of the best things I've seen in my life. I have to admit...during the first 25 minutes or so, the movie is REALLY dry and I thought a LOT of the humor missed its mark. To me, the opening really fell flat on its face, and I thought that it was going to be all caught up in its own hype and fail to live up to expectations. But then, and I'm not sure at exactly what point it happened, the movie just flipped a switch. And from then on, there were about a dozen times where I laughed out loud in the theater--not the funny "sit in your movie seat and chuckle to the good stuff" most comedies have, but actual "HAHAHAHAHA!" in the theater. It REALLY reminded me of Hot Fuzz, just with less heart and not as highly tuned of a wit. There's no real Danny/Nicholas type relationship going on like there is in the Fuzz, but all the extremely absurd, over-the-top, brilliant parody moments are still there.

Everyone does a good job in this movie. EVERYONE. I can't say that any one performance was mailed-in. Tom Cruise was absolutely fantastic, and isn't that weird to say in this post-Scientology-all-fucked-up-TomKat-Cruise era? He's hilarious. Downey Jr is great, too, especially with all his interaction with Brandon Jackson's "Alpa Chino" character (and boy did it take me till halfway through the movie to get the joke in that character's name. I'm lame). Even Matthew McCanNotAct, who I usually hate, really did a good job. I would stop calling him that if I had any earthly idea how to spell his last name. Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Danny McBride, Steve Coogan...all hilarious (Steve Coogan was in both Tropic Thunder AND Hot Fuzz, so I am morally obligated EVEN MORE to see Hamlet 2 now).

Go see this movie.

ALSO! I saw this movie with a GIRL who did NOT cancel on me. So my streak of canceled dates ends at 4! She and I were supposed to see it Sunday, but she called me last night and was like "I don't think I'm going to be able to make it Sunday", so I was thinking "Oh this is brand new to my life", but then she said "Are you free tonight?" So we went. And I saw one of the best movies ever Ever EVAR.

I am getting SO CLOSE to the final case in Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations, and I can't wait. I have been marking out in anticipation of it to Tina and Abbey. The first three games of this series have told such brilliant stories and opened so many doors, and I just know this case is going be expansive and brilliant and hilarious and touching and perfect. It's going to bring everyone back to resolve their stories! Morgan Fey! Misty Fey! Dahlia Hawthorne! Miles Edgeworth! Franziska von Karma! It's going to answer so many questions: Where has Misty been since the DL-6 incident? What the hell happened to Godot/Armando? Where has all the stuff with Pearl being mad at Nick and stsying at Kurain been about? I hope that more of the recurring characters come back for this trial (like Lotta Hart or Larry Butz or Will Powers or even Manfred von Karma), but I'm not sure they will.

I can't wait. My life is going to be so partially empty after I finish this game, but I know I'm going to savor and love this last case. The last case in the last game of the best game series ever. Love love love love love.

It's so nice out. I need to throw on my tank top and shorts and shoes and go for a jog. I just stretched a bit. Time to go iPod it up and enjoy this great morning.

This was such an impersonal entry. :) Movie talk and video game talk. Nothing about me. Maybe later. I'm less interesting. :)
