Experiment 02 [Action/Phone]

[Action at 1664 Nelson Street, closed to Sion]

[Naze is inspecting the package that arrived from the post office, return address from the mayor. She's suspicious, of course. Eventually though, she decides to open it at the kitchen table.

It's a knife. A very familiar knife.]

Well, now isn't that interesting?

[She reaches to pick it up... and as ( Read more... )

be careful what you wish for, regains, how does that knife in her head work, no more paper bag

[Ah, a familiar voice. She remembers meeting Naze once from a while back, but never more than that. They were "friends" now regardless and that's all the reason she needed to offer her two cents regardless however it may help.]

You got something of yours back.

Indeed I have. Suffice to say, I won't be needing the paper bag anymore.

[She's just going to wrap up in bandages instead]

[Why was she wearing her paper bag in the first place? Ah, right, because she didn't have any wounds. Not too many people could forget that reason.]

Ahah!

Congratulations, your old scars returned.

[Even with her old wound back, it's not like she's horrible scarred... hence the need to keep hiding]

More or less. It was not quite the same as waking up with them gone.

'Least you don't feel as naked anymore.

[Not that she understands it, but to each their own.]

Your dependency is something that I still can't figure out. You hid yourself when you didn't need to and the next time I see you, you certainly won't be wearing a paper bag anymore. It's an odd thing to want to show scars, but everybody has their own niche... 'course, there's always a reason for 'em, which is what I'd like to know.

[She doesn't like being judged based on her looks... at least not favorably...]

Well, I won't be wearing a paper bag, but don't expect to see my face.

It's complicated, but basically, I prefer not to have people drawing the wrong conclusions.

Or the right ones, but right or wrong has always been a variable system. While a more well-natured person would tell you to be more confident of your natural appearance, I say... do as you see fit.

I've confidence in it to not act in my best interests.

[Which notably are very unlike most people's best interests]

Hmhm.

[She makes a small chuckle. The girl is still a mystery to her, but perhaps that's the fun of it. Possessing all the memories of her world doesn't necessarily mean she understood it. Anybody could watch a movie and not understand the plot whether it raises points unheard of before or it's just total rubbish.

Clod believes in the prior in this scenario.]

Yes, well. You'll get more belongings back whether you want them or not. For it to work in your best interests would be a total fluke.

Oh, and one other thing. We don't have to drink the milk anymore, so hooray for that.

Hmph. I wonder what would have happened had I avoided opening the package, then. Would the powers that be conspire it to somehow come open regardless and for me to come into contact with the contents?

I'll have to try it the next time this happens.

[A raspy chuckle]

Yes, hooray for that.

Worth trying. Or it could've just as easily sat there, gathering dust, and patiently waited for you to open it whenever at your leisure. It's all the same to a box whether you open it now, later, or don't. What does a box care?

[Not much, but who can safely say in this town? Milk wants you dead.]

But we can probably expect a few of these "presents" to arrive just after a storm weathers through. A week of agony is rewarded with a small remembrance of home. With more to come.

Considering who it's a gift from, I wouldn't be surprised if it wanted to be opened so it could inflict itself on me.

I wonder why they do it. It's foolish to think these trinkets will placate us. Perhaps its to prevent the set-in of absolute despair?

My, then they must be nicer than I thought. Whether people go mad or not, it's not like they care much. If a person filled with "absolute despair" became a problem, then droning is a much cleaner solution.

No. But the conversation made public in the phone call tells me that the people running this town aren't too unified.

Different intentions are at work. The Postman, the Mayor, Lucy Smith, her family, and the Milkman... among others.

Subjects that have given into despair are much less interesting. I'd assume they'd rather see us continue to struggle in futility.

Droning yields no new data either, and poor entertainment besides.

That's true enough. I'd almost forgotten about that... yes, it sounded like the postman wasn't someone the higher-ups were too fond of.

Lucy Smith, the one who runs this town, is just as feared by the Mayor and her family as she is by us. Different elements are at work here, but for now, it's easy to tell that Smith is the one with the true power. The Mayor and others are simply allowed to do as they wish.

Lack of unity and trust has always lead to the downfall of any bureaucracy.

We can't fall victim to it. There is no such thing as futility not especially when it's doled out by mere men.

Is that so? Then I suppose we may have our chance yet. Such quarrels are exactly the kind that open opportunity for the likes of us.
