Plea for support for True North

Dear friends,

As many of you know, in March 2014 I spent time in Cape Town, South Africa, working with an inspiring charity called True North to make a difference to children’s lives in Vrygond township. The experience was eye-opening and life-changing, and a piece of my heart will always be out there. More importantly, the people of True North have a real and meaningful impact upon the community there, especially the 1,500 children currently dependent upon their Early Child Development provision for their early years education.

True North have recently been hit by a number of problems outside of their control that has left them facing a funding crisis, due to changes in legislation and funding within South Africa. They are now desperate to find backers from outside of their country in order to continue their good work. They also desperately need an injection of funds to enable them to restructure their offering in this new environment and to set up a sustainable future. See here for more on True North.

I am working alongside my work colleagues to try and raise funds to see True North through to the year’s end, in order to give them the time they need. I don’t often ask for much, but I am asking now. If there is anything that you can offer to help support, please do so.

What can you do?
You can donate through this link. Even the price of a couple of coffees can make a real difference. (Or donate through me and double your donation with Pearson UK’s fund-raising matching!)

But it doesn’t have to be financial:
·                  Please spread the word through all your own connections and media streams.
·                  Please offer ideas and/or support for fund-raising activities.
·                  If you can offer or source raffle prizes or things for auction, please let me know.
·                  If you have a talent, such as making, performing, writing, can we exploit that to raise funds?

True North need $150,000 to see them safely to year’s end, to allow them to restructure and plan according to the new funding landscape, and to seek out new partners further afield.

Can you spare a couple of Costa Coffees in order to keep these schools open?
