After handwavily waking up with Arthur that morning -- and, um, saying goodbye to Arthur an hour or so later -- Eric had showered, had another waffle (this one with spiced apples on top), and gone out to town. He'd decided to stop by Pixie Dust, and see if there was anything needing doing before his shift tomorrow.

He was whistling cheerily as he walked along, just enjoying the day. ... And wouldn't you, in his shoes?
