Oh, Reese

So I was waiting to meet up with some of Meredith's friends last night downtown at The Standard which it turns out is this really upscale glitterati sort of club but I was early. I saw that there was some sort of movie production going on about two blocks down from the hotel so I walked down to check it out and waste some time.

They have the whole street blocked off and grip people were everywhere and catering trucks and the whole bit. I walked past the whole thing then kind of stopped after I had passed it, and leaned up against the Hilton's entrance to watch. They were doing something with cars and the street had been wetted down and yadda yadda, but I couldn't see any actors and they were filming like five seconds of tape so there wasn't much to go on.

I leaned over to a woman who looked like she might be part of the production and said "Hey, do you know what they're filming?" The woman looked back at me with this sort of "um, who ARE you?" look - which is right around the time that I realized that she was Reese Witherspoon. I don't know what I actually looked like but it probably was a mixture of a deer caught in the headlights and an being absolutely astonished. So then I sculked back to my little perch and watched them film for another ten minutes and then left.

The Standard was pretty cool too - UBER Los Angeles bar - we're talking only the most rich and soulless need apply. It's on the roof of a hotel and is littered with like couchy square sitting objects and has a swimming pool and fireplace and they project old retro movies onto the sides of the surrounding buildings and a bunch of out-of-the-way semi-sketchy waterbeds that are enclosed in big egg-shaped objects that overlook the skyline. After tips I dropped about twenty five dollars for two glasses of Dewars (but the bartenders were all extremely hot so that makes up for it, right? RIGHT??) The best part of it was that I got there earlier than the rest of them did so they let me up immediately. When they got there there was a big line and bouncers and no you can't come through unless you're on the guest list. So I got to be the cool inside guy they already knew. Yeeaahh.. not my greatest roll ever but heck, it's hollywood - I can play the part.
