...I wish I knew what people were thinking.
When I first talked with Professor Strohschaenk about the research project, he said it would mainly be about travelling up to Chippewa County (a bit north of Eau Claire, for my non-EC readers) and trying to find historical information or artifacts relating to German immigrants from the area. When I got here, he told me to start looking through census records for the nation of origin (i.e. Prussia, Bayern, etc), profession, and (obviously) name of people who emigrated here from Germany and compile the information into a spreadsheet.
Roughly 80 hours in the library later, I've got a spreadsheet with about 3500 names on it and I haven't gone up to Chippewa county once. I checked in with Strohschaenk today, and it seems that's what he expected. WTF?
