First day

First day was interesting and odd. this new primary facility has only been inhabited for a few weeks so much of the infrastructure has not been put in place - no cubicle walls or even a coffee maker yet. It's a serious change from the previous work environment. At my previous work, IT management assumed no one would follow any official policy (security, communication, file handling, document formatting, etc) - and it was found to be completely warranted - so all these things were implemented behind the scenes so users could not mess up or neglect to comply. Here, the policy appears to be to let everyone know what the policy is and how to implement it and what the consequences will be if they are not followed. We'll see how well that works out when we grow to more than a few dozen employees...

The drive is hellacious if I hit several spots during the to & fro rush hours, but management is okay with slipping start & end times around and doing what I'm able to from home - like the video & presentation editing - but for much of the desktop support portion I must be on-site.

I'll be focusing on getting the publicity & marketing graphics together for the nonce - big Grand Opening week is coming up very soon and we need to get word out at minimal expense.
