[Cissie is seriously depressed about Five's departure and is just now accepting the idea that Leia's really gone, so she's... working on ignoring that, after moping most of the day. Sorry Barge, time for some sweetness.]
When I was like seven or eight, I went grocery shopping with my mom and saw some really cool Superman valentines that I had to have. You know, the paper ones you give out at school? I wasn't actually in school, but I wanted them anyway. So I asked Mom if she would get them for me, and boy, was that a mistake.
Let me put it this way: everyone complaining about Valentine's Day today? Would get along incredibly well with my mother. The true story of St. Valentine is really scarring to a little girl who just wants some candy hearts, that's all I'm saying. I bet if I had asked for Wonder Woman or Green Arrow valentines, I could have skipped that lecture.
Anyway, my point is this: today doesn't have to be about consumerism (unless you're Prefect, in which case, have a ball!), or about who's in love with who or who's alone, or how many paper valentines you get or even about romance at all. Not that it isn't nice, of course. But I guess... all the pink and flowers and hearts and whatever isn't what makes today count. What makes it a holiday worth celebrating is the people you care about, and letting them know you appreciate and care for them. Other languages have more than one word for love, because there are so many different kinds. I think today's about celebrating all kinds.
I mean, before I get a whole bunch of you being cynical and obnoxious here, think about it. We don't tell each other enough. What's the one thing we always say or think after we lose someone? We didn't tell them how much they mattered. So. That's what I think today is for.
...And that concludes today's After School Special. I now return you to your regularly scheduled bitching and moaning.
[Private to Sylar]
[There's a bit of a pause because she's... really not at all sure what to do here. A few months ago, there totally would have been a valentine or present or something, but now it's all a little awkward. So she smiles a little.]
Happy Valentine's Day.
