[ continued from this thread ]

While it was true the knockers on the front doors were very loud, Helen kept closer to the foyer. Her assistant wasn't there to answer the door if she had gone farther into the building. As she waited for her guest to come, she had moved to her office to begin a diagnostic of the Sanctuary. The EM shield was gone completely (hopefully John would not show up before she could reinstate it) and the system was all buggered. With a heavy sigh she realized she would have to go through every entry and change the security note. There was no one else in the Sanctuary but her.

It was almost... terrifying. Never had she been alone in the building. Even in the early days, her father's patients had become her own and moved to this location. There was always someone there for her see or converse with. Though the physical company was there, Helen always felt alone to a degree. It came with living for long. One naturally learned to stay a distance from people in fear of losing them. It was inevitable that they would pass on before her. Distance just helped eased the pain.

However that was a topic to dwell again over at another time. Not having been there a day, she had already set an agenda for herself. Doctor McCoy's crew had no proper place to stay and she was adamant about amending that. No one should have to sleep on the floor. It was almost barbaric. Of course sleeping on the ground while hunting or camping was understandable. But that was not.

Then there was the man Gabriel Gray. There was no doubt, based off the conversation with him, that the man was an Abnormal (though he hadn't heard the term before). He had been killed before and returned, and had an aptitude to understand things almost instantly. Helen couldn't lie. She was certainly most curious about him, just as she was any Abnormal she met. However it only went so far. Abnormals were living beings. They deserved the same respect.

And it was certainly the one point that Helen always stressed before anything else.
