FIRST! Woo. Though I did get a pre-read betaing it, soooo, not really first. Haha.

I love this fic, I don't care that you're being all modesty and/or lacking in confidence because you need to know that this is good stuff. Maybe you didn't perfect it as much as you wanted to, but that's okay.

It deserves the praise and attention that I hope it will get. You're so skilled at creating stories, full, detailed stories full of cases and drama, angst, romance and tears. It's got comedy, it's got Jane, it's got Red John and it has a moment that should be the best thing in the world changed into something equally terrible.

Jackson Roberts (OHHH, JUST REALISED THAT HIS INITIALS ARE JR WHICH IS BACKWARDS OF RJ!) is a carefully designed original character who stinks of the good, the bad and the downright horrific all at once. He's got that charm but he's also got that horrible secrecy that makes the Red John sections of this story all the more difficult to read. It's the worst and best type of story when the main character doesn't know what is happening but we do. I don't think you could have written it any other way.

As for the Jane and Lisbon relationship, it's wonderful how we see it gradually build up, but not in an overfacing way. It's not the bee all and end all of the story, it's not the focal point, far from it and that is actually such a breath of fresh air. There's nothing wrong with Jane and Lisbon being the story, but having it on the edge, almost faded into the background, it works.

This story is very much about Lisbon and how she's progressed and changed and grown as a human being. How she's accepted the things in her life, taken on board new things, things which she did ever think she'd get. I love how we've got to explore that side of her. Usually whenever we explore Lisbon moving on in her private life, getting married, thinking about children, it's usually with Jane. But in reality, it's more likely to be some random guy she's met on the job.

That doesn't stop Jane from being an important person in his life, nor does it change the fact that Red John is still very much there, on the edge of their world. Infiltrated in it in a way that nobody could have ever imagined.

You should be proud, and if you're not, then I'm proud enough for you.

Of course you were the first XD

I'm still not happy with it, but that may partially be due to the fact it was romance and I'm always picky about romance and yeah.

HAHA. I'm surprised it took you so long to work out the JR is the reverse of RJ. He was a fun version of RJ to come up with, definitely. And such a mixture of everything.

I'm shipping Jane/Lisbon harder than ever now, so it was surprisingly difficult to keep them so far in the background. And now, I'm thinking it is increasingly more likely that it will be Jane she moves on with. I've always been an endgame shipper for those two, but part of me never thought it'd happen. Now, I'm becoming increasingly convinced it will.

But anyway. This is a story about a different Lisbon, meeting a different man, before Jane and as a consequence, having something beautiful go catastrophically wrong.

And I'm glad it worked for you, even if it didn't quite for me.
