BACKGROUND:

Matthew and Alfred were born to a well-to-do mutant couple in London and grew up there for the first five years of their life. Around their fifth birthday, their parents were killed by anti-mutant vigilante group and the twins survived only because of hiding in a closet. When they were later found, they were incredibly dependent on each other and Al took up the 'older brother' mantle for the twins.
Matt will get sad and upset at the mention of them and their parent's murder was a great tragedy and widely talked about.
Matthew was taken with his twin brother Alfred to an orphanage in England. A year later, Alfred was adopted by another person, while Matthew was adopted by Francis Bonnefoy, a French mutant living in England. At first, Matthew was incredibly upset, but it turned out their fathers knew each other (somehow, in some way that the two boys had never quite figured out) and they could continue to play and be close to each other.
Francis was a kind father and even though he could be exceptionally affectionate, they got along very well. Then he had to go away on business and Matthew went to live with Arthur, Alfred, and Peter. While he was there, he got dragged along with Alfred on every half-brained scheme and got to sit through all of his American television shows. Despite that constant immersion, he'd never really caught up with the slang, still using more of the English slang mixed with what little french he'd absorbed from his upbringing. He did exceptionally well in school, mostly to get his father's attention.
Then Alfred got powers, super strength and then healing, and Matthew ended up getting the brunt of those powers and their abuse. After a particularly bad episode, Alfred suddenly couldn't slam the door quite as hard or pick up as heavy things. And it was only around Matt. After a few experiments, with Arthur and Alfred, Matthew finally figured out he could get rid of anyone's powers temporarily.
After a while, when Alfred was deciding to go to Xavier's Institute, Matthew looked it up, hoping that if he went there, he could get control over his powers. What had turned out as a convenient method of subduing Alfred had turned into a burden. So after consulting Francis, he bid his father and uncle goodbye and boarded the plane to America.
PERSONALITY: Matthew is a bundle of contradictions. What he shows and what he feels are two different things. He's outwardly shy, happy and bright, but he often feels left out. Having been overshadowed by his older twin for a good portion of his life, he really just wants the chance to shine. He wants friends and it isn't that he's really shy but that his brother makes friends very easily.
He doesn't stand up for himself most of the time, but he does have a bit of temper where Alfred is concerned. He gets swept up in thing easily and tends to go along with the crowd rather than stand out. It's that tendency that makes him get overlooked. If you do manage to notice him, he's smart, bright and intensely loyal. Once you're friends with him, you're friends forever. Though he may get down from time to time, he is an optimist overall.
Matthew likes a lot of French foods and for the most part, will starve rather than eat Arthur's food. He got some scones from him to send him off and he plans to pawn them off on Alfred at first sight.
APPEARANCE: Matthew wears glasses, has long blond hair, with a slight curl, and bright blue eyes. He has a fondness for pullovers and long jackets, but he will have to get used to wearing t-shirts and short-sleeved shirts. Even though he's fifteen, he still keeps a polar bear plushie with a little maple leaf on it in his room that Francis brought back to him for Quebec.
POWERS: Matthew nullifies all super powers. And...That's pretty much it.
