CHARACTER
NAME: Suzanne King-Jones/Cissie/Suzie/Carrie/Cecelia/Chi-Chi/Ralph -- Arrowette
AGE: 17
GENDER: Female

TIMELINE PERIOD: After the destruction of Star City.

ABILITIES: Cissie possesses superhuman vision. However she is also trained in first aid, and is an Olympic gold medal winner for archery.

CHARACTER HISTORY:
Cissie’s story starts with her mom. Bonnie King was a young girl, whose mother wanted to rule her life. Bonnie had a gift with a bow and arrow, and even ended up on the US Olympic team. Going to the games, Bonnie was happy to win a Bronze Medal, however her mother had expected a Gold Medal. The two argued over the “failure”, and soon after Bonnie abandoned both her home and archery. She never spoke to her mother again.

Bonnie fled to Star City, where she watched Green Arrow and Speedy fight for justice using only their bows and arrows. She became inspired, and made up a costume and started calling herself Miss Arrowette. She tried to help the two heroes as much as possible, but because of how clumsy and vain she was, she was more a bother than a help. She even got the chance to date Oliver Queen (The Green Arrow). It’s during her time in Star City, that she meets journalist Bernell Jones. He remembers her from the Olympic Games, and considers her a star. She takes him on as her side kick, Bowstring. Mostly for the publicity he can give her. Finally, the Green Arrow asks her to stop helping them. However it’s not that, which stops her. She stops being a hero due to carpal tunnel in her wrists, and as her new job as a secretary.

She ends up talking Bernell into marrying her, but unknown to Bernell, Bonnie has become pregnant. Bernell stays with her and soon they have a daughter, Suzanne. Little Suzanne takes a shine to nearly everything, and seems to have eye sight to rival a hawks. Bernell and Bonnie are happy with their family, until Suzie’s real father appears. Bonnie informs Bernell that Suzanne isn’t his daughter, but is actually the daughter of a circus performer she met a long time ago and had a fling with. The man, James Jesse, knows he could never be a real father to little Suzanne, so he stays away from the young girl. He does send her gifts when he can, though Bonnie would either sell them or trash them. Eventually James did meet his little girl, and the two hit it off, though Suzanne was only three at the time. James nickname’s her Cissie, and the name stuck. Suzanne would no longer even answer to her real name, and soon after her father renames her, he disappears from her life. The King-Jones family isn’t destined for happiness however. At the age of five, Cissie’s father dies after having a massive heart attack.

Using the insurance money they got from Bernell’s death, Bonnie sets up various lessons for her daughter. From archery, judo, kick-boxing, gymnastics, ballet, and a vast many other things. She starts to resent her mother, yet feels she has no other choice. She sticks with it, and becomes the hero known as Arrowette.

During one of her first villain fights, Arrowette encounters Impulse and his mentor Max Mercury. Max is concerned by Bonnie’s exploitation of her daughter, and calls Child Welfare Services. Cissie is then sent to the Elias School for Girls, and her mother loses custody of her. Cissie doesn’t hold anything against Max however, and is grateful to him.

Cissie however does not put up her bow. Continuing on as Arrowette, it’s during a fight with the villain Harm, which she’s injured and picked up by the Super Cycle. The bike takes her to the Young Justice headquarters, where Impulse is able to remove the arrow she had shoved into her arm. She’s happy to see her old friend once more, and after being patched up by Robin, she joins the team. It’s with Young Justice that she also meets her best friends, Greta and Cassie.

After the therapist at her school is murdered, Cissie tracks down the killers in a rage. She nearly kills one of them herself, but is stopped by Superboy. Cissie is shaken by the incident and vows never to be Arrowette again. Despite leaving the team, she remains close friends with all of the members. She is also able to finally reconcile with her mother, who convinces her to try out for the “Summer Games” (basically the Olympics). Cissie is welcomed onto the US team, and goes on to win a gold medal. When she returns from the games, she’s asked to guest star on “Wendy the Werewolf Stalker”, and even becomes a more permanent cast member. She even becomes a mentor to the Red Tornado’s daughter Traya.

Despite the efforts of her teammates, Cissie remains out of the hero game. However her old team still ended up dragging her into a few messes, including a baseball game on an alien planet. During the Imperiex war, she volunteered as a medic and ended up working alongside her team once more.

When Cassie Sandsmark (Wonder Girl) was having problems enrolling into a school, Cissie speaks up on her behalf. Threatening to take her fame and talents to more public schools, if her friend wasn’t admitted. Cissie also spends time with Cassie in California at Titans Tower, when her friend needs her support after the death of Cassie’s boyfriend Kon. Cissie herself is upset by the loss as well, and lends her ear to her morning friends.

When the death of Bart Allen (Impulse, Kid Flash, 4th Flash) finally reaches her, Cissie is deviated. She attends his funeral with her friends, but is closed off and reserved. She also decides during this time, to cut off the majority of her hair. It was either her hair or her wrists, and she knew Bart would never like the idea of her hurting herself, so she just cut the hair. It was also at the funeral where she was given her most price possession. A Flash ring which contained Bart’s first hero costume, his Impulse suit.

Cissie’s then picked up the bow and arrow once more, as the hero Arrowette to help her friend Wonder Girl rescue her mother. After saving her friends mom, Cissie returns to her normal life. School, boys, an occasional trip to Titans Tower to visit Cassie, and runs to Gotham to see Tim. She’s granted permission to attend a local community college for pre-med classes, while still finishing up the remainder of her high school year. She believes that Bruce Wayne might have had something to do with it, but doesn’t have any proof. After the death of Bruce Wayne, she flies out to Gotham to meet with Tim. She promises him that if he ever needs a friend that he’d call her.

When the Blackest Day starts, Cissie rushes around doing her medical thing. She even flies out to Coast City to help, and stays out in California for a while to hang out with Cassie and get a much deserved vacation. She however, for her own reasons, avoided Bart. She told Cassie that she wasn’t ready to face him yet. When Star City is destroyed, Cissie once again heads out to help.

CHARACTER PERSONALITY:
Cissie has always been one of the more outgoing girls among her age group, and friends. She’s willing to do nearly anything once, and never shies away from a challenge. She doesn’t mind jumping blindly into dangerous situations, or into a few tight spots, especially if it’s to save a friend or two. She seems to feed off of the thrill of the adventure, and the danger to a degree that might come off as unhealthy. She’s also got a competitive spirit that doesn’t allow her to give up easily.

Cissie is also an extremely friendly person, though her trust is hard to earn given her past experiences, once it’s earned, you’ll be sure that you’ve made a friend for life. She’s very loyal and protective of her friends, and considers them her family. Anyone messing with her friends is sure to be in a tight spot. She will defend any of them, with her life. She’s a very intelligent girl, and has a great sense of humor. Though her humor is sometimes sarcastic, and a bit depressing, it’s still there. She enjoys relaxing and simply enjoying the things she’s got in life, and she’d rather be sitting at the side of a pool or at a small café, then in a movie theater.

She’s a loving and caring person, and though she might seem closed off to strangers, for those who know her well she’s an open book. She’s the “heart on their sleeve” type. She’s relatively easy to talk to, a great listener, and she’s highly compassionate. When her friends get emotional, Cissie normally follows suit, sharing their pain right alongside them. She has a strong desire to protect and help people, even when she had thrown her hero lifestyle aside; she still found ways to help.

Because of her past as a hero, Cissie holds responsibility as a high priority in her life. She believes that people should hold themselves responsible for their own actions. Despite Cissie’s outward appearance, as a fun loving, and cheerful girl, she holds within herself a deep mistrust and fear. She’s terrified of losing control, and hurting someone. She’s haunted by the memories of nearly killing the man who killed her school councilor, and because of those nightmares and fears she holds herself back. She tends to hold herself to such high standards, that she almost always thinks she’s a failure. She believes her friends see her in the same way, and has in the past shied away from them, or snapped at them because of it.

She has a fiery temper and tends to speak before really thinking. She’s also got a bit of a jealous and possessive streak, but it’s particularly geared towards her friends. When Cissie’s in the wrong, she either apologizes or just stews. She’ll beat herself up about it until something forces her hand and makes her act. She’s also know for suppressing her emotions until she snaps, and then she’ll be extremely hard on herself for her lack of self-control. She’s slow to forgive those who’ve harmed her or her friends, and slower still to forgive herself.

SAMPLES
THIRD PERSON:
Cissie climbed out of the taxi, and handed the money to the driver. She gave a small smile and shouldered her bag before heading towards the large building in front of her. She moved through the large crowd and smiled and nodded at the few people she could remember. She’d only been a hero for a short time, but she knew a few of the bigger names. Heck there was a time she had even screamed at the whole Justice League. She let herself laugh at that, and then ducked into the museum.

The rest of the crowds were gathering around the Flash part, but Cissie knew where she was going. She’d been there so many times for the years. In the past week she’d been there a total of eighteen times. Each time, she’d wonder into the same part of the museum, and each time, she’d be alone. No one bothered to come to this part all that often. But she couldn’t stay away. After all it held the statue of the man she owed her life to.

She stopped in front of the statue and set her bag on the ground by her feet. She removed the ball cap she was wearing and dropped it on top of bag. Shook her hair out and ran a hand through it. She was letting it grow back out. The short cut had been different, but she missed her hair.

“Hey Max. Can you believe this crowd? All for our little Impulse, oops, I mean Kid Flash.” She laughed softly, but she could already feel the tears coming to her eyes. She heard something off to the side and quickly bent down to the bag. Pulling out the blue and white flowers and laying them at the feet of the statue. There wasn’t a grave for the man who the statue was made after. So this was the only memorial. She removed the dyeing flowers and stood back up. The figure out of the corner of her eye stayed back in the shadows, and she was glad. She wasn’t ready to face her friends yet.

“It’s going to be starting soon, and I’ve gotta go find Greta. Poor girl was a mess.” She wasn’t really. If anything Greta had been Cissie’s rock. She’d let Cissie crumble when they had gotten the news, simply wrapped her arms around her and let her cry. But Cissie wasn’t going to tell Max that. “I’ll stop by after. Before I head back to school.” She placed her hand on the statue for a second, and let a few tears escape her eyes. She picked up the bag and turned towards the door. The red, black, and yellow glad teen standing there just gave her a soft look.

Cissie pulled her hat back on and stalked out the door. No trace of tears in her eyes, and a smile on her face.

FIRST PERSON:
What happened here? One minute I’m helping the residents in Star City, tending to some guy who get his hand ripped off… the next I’m waking up in some catacomb thing with bones and rotting smells. If this is some alien planet, how the hell did I get here? Those ladies, the Fate’s or whatever said my world was gone. What really happened to it? Where was the Justice League? How’d they let that happen? Superman wouldn’t have let anything happen… I mean he’d rather die than let that…

It was another Crisis wasn’t it? That one took Kon, and I bet there was another one, and it destroyed the world. God, all this sounds so damn morbid. Not that my life wasn’t completed filled with morbidities anyways. I mean it wasn’t two weeks or so ago, that I was attending a memorial for a friend of mine. Every other week, someone’s dyeing, or missing, or whatever.

I guess I should introduce myself then, as it seems I’m going to be living here from now on. Name’s Cissie King-Jones. No Cissie isn’t short for anything. No you can’t know if it’s my real name. It’s just Cissie, leave it at that.

Now, who wants to show a girl around?

NOTES: Most of Cissie’s history is actually my own head canon. As she’s rarely seen from the time she left Young Justice to when she appeared in Wonder Girl’s comic.
