It's been a while since I updated last. A lot is going on, but I haven't felt like writing about it.
The biggest news is my new job in Arlington. I'm still living near Baltimore, so it's an interesting commute. Here it is, for those interested.
Morning
- Get up at 4:00 AM. Get dressed, feed pets, put a harness and leash on Marik, and take him and the dog out. (Marik likes to roll around on the patio and in the grass, but if he's not on a leash, he'll run off, and then I have to waste time chasing him.)
- Leave house at 4:20 AM. Drive to Marc train station.
- Get on Marc train at 4:50 AM.
- Ride Marc train to Metro.
- Get on Metro around 5:30 AM.
- Ride Metro to Virginia.
- Leave Metro station around 6:15 AM.
- Walk to office building.
- Arrive at office around 6:30 AM.
Total travel time: 2 hours, 10 minutes.
(Of course, this takes longer if one of the trains gets delayed or canceled, or if I oversleep, which has happened a couple of times.)
Afternoon
- Leave work around 3:20 PM.
- Walk to Metro.
- Get on train around 3:35 PM.
- Ride Metro to Marc station.
- Get on train around 4:15 PM.
- Ride Metro back to Baltimore.
- Arrive at the car around 5:00 PM.
- Drive home.
- Arrive at home around 5:30 PM, but sometimes as late as 6:00 PM if traffic is really bad.
Total travel time: 2 hours, 10 minutes to 2 hours, 40 minutes.
So, I spend 4-5 hours a day traveling. The good news is that I work from home Wednesday and Friday. The bad news is that I'm exhausted from the other three days of the week. I felt like I had to take this job, though, because it looked like I was about to be laid off, and I'd rather go through all this than go through THAT again. Shudder.
