It took some bargaining, some bribing, but he managed to get the night off after all. He was exited, he was nervous, he felt a bit like a little kid again. He was sneaking off-ship to go meet his secret lover. Okay, he wasn't really sneaking, and he hated the fact that they had to be secret, but... They were going to have a whole room to themselves again. All night.

He was earlier than he'd expected, and she wasn't at the lounge yet. Dee was there though, and it was only polite to buy her a drink. She told him that Billy, the President's big puppy of an aide, had asked her to marry him and she'd refused. He was startled, they'd seemed like a great couple. Aside from the fact that he was about two feet taller than she was. If he didn't know better, he'd almost swear that Dee was actually coming on to him instead. Things got awkward when Billy actually showed up and naturally jumped to the conclusion that Dee was there with Lee behind his back. He decided that he wasn't going to be of any more use to them, and retreated to the bar.

That's when things started to go from bad to worse.

"There are times,' he thinks to himself, "That you just can't ever escape things like military training." She was acting oddly, the woman by the door, fidgety and aimless, and not even Ellen Tigh could help noticing her strange behavior. Then she made the mistake of flashing a glimpse of her gun, and all Lee can think is "Thank the gods these aren't professionals."

He pulls Ellen towards the bathroom, dimly aware that she's jumped to a few implausible conclusions of her own, and for once, timing is on his side, and they're well hidden when the shooting starts. He watches as they close the blast doors and start to herd everyone into one group, Dee and Billy in the front. Of course. He casts desperately around for any idea at all to help them, and takes Ellen's drink, and the dry ice inside and goes looking in the walls for a carbon dioxide sensor.

"Stay calm," he tells Ellen right before she leaves him half inside the wall to go telling the terrorists exactly who she is and why they should use her as their prime bargaining tool. He sighs softly and tries to do something actually useful. He just wanted to have a nice, quiet drink with his lover.
