So last weekend we went to an Australian Rules Football game. The emphasis was most definitely not on 'rules', and they didn't kick it enough for 'football', so I guess that leaves us with 'Australian'. It was very Australian. It was fast, intense, and when you got kicked in the head you just carried on - no worries. Very exciting. None of us entirely knew what was going on, as we were 2 English, 2 American, 1 German and 1 Korean, but it wasn't that hard to grasp. Basically, just pile on the guy who has got the ball until he has to give it to you. Our team won, which was nice. I picked a side to barrack for based on their colours :) Go Carlton! Wooo! Actually, there's a little song for the side, as there is for each team, and it's charming. No sarcasm, it really is this happy little la-la-la song that you'd expect as a children's TV show theme tune, not the anthem for some rock-hard violent ball game. So that amuses me endlessly and I neeeeeed to get a CD of the songs.
This weekend was quite quiet. I've finally realised I might need to do some OU work so that wiped out an entire day (at the moment I am 'writing an essay' - can't you tell?), and I was knackered after a week of work/insomnia. Sunday we went to a backpacker expo to learn more about trekking round Oz. I don't think we really did, but it was cunningly opposite the museum so we went there too and looked at the nice stuffed race horse (Phar Lap) that is their prize exhibit. Though I still haven't seen the Neighbours set.
We also watched The Polar Express in 3-D Imax. It would be utterly nauseating in 2D, but its kinda fun in 3D, when you have snowflakes falling in the cinema and a train stopping inches from your nose.
It's a bad idea to start drinking wine the moment you get in from work and then expect to be able to write an essay. Or even care about an essay.
