In-Game Character Information
Name: Botan Wakahisa aka "The Fairy Ghost" or "The Fairy Guide"
Series: Yu Yu Hakusho
Age at death: 16
Length of time as a ghost: 500+ years (She gave up counting, leaving that stuff to all the Ravenclaws and Phoenix and the Chocobo.)
Personality: For someone who's been dead for hundreds of years, Botan is still as incredibly chipper as when she was alive. She's a polite individual who always has a smile for everyone and a kind word to say, despite how they may act towards her. That isn't to say that she's a perfect angel, as for all her politeness she'll respond in quite a childishly annoying or immature manner to insults (ie; sticking out her tongue or rolling her eyes).
An insightful girl who dislikes confrontation, Botan is more of a peacemaker than anything. That does not keep her from being brutally honest at times, though she will often laugh or tell a joke to cover up the negative aspects of the truth. She doesn't like to see people upset.
Botan has a few quirks, the most noticeable being where she likes to phrase her information in the form of a questioning game, usually shouting "Bingo! You win the prize!" when someone answers her correctly or catches on. Her second most well noted quirk, is when she tends to act like a cat and go "Nyahhh" when she's up to something.
All in all, Botan is really just a sweet, understanding girl who died too soon and likes to talk. She can most often be seen helping out students navigate the hallways and, if they ask, finding things they might of lost or with their homework. Despite her young appearance and silly antics, she really is very knowledgeable and can be serious when it's warranted.
Background: (All of this is totes AU as she has NO actual background in Canon. :| )
Born to a pureblooded witch from England and a muggleborn priest from Japan, Botan spent most of her childhood in magical Japan. She grew up in the middle of some of the myths and lore that most of the muggle world are still trying to decipher to date. She played games with demons, spirits and all sorts of creatures, generally having quite the happy, magical life.
However, at the age of ten, things took a rather upsetting turn in her life.
Her father, a priest of great power, was called by a far away Lord to come and exterminate a dangerous monster that was roaming his lands, savagely attacking the people and destroyed all of their hard worked crops. Accepting the summons, her father left Botan and her mother and went off to take care of the problem that had arisen. For days, then weeks, then months, and finally two years later, both she and her mother waited. They waited and waited and no word came about of her father or the demon.
During their wait, her mother had begun to grow heartbroken for her husband and homesick for life back in England. She was so saddened that all of her feelings managed to produce their self into a physical, life threatening illness. It was decided and with great trepidation that the two packed up what belongings they had, heading away from magical Japan forever.
On her Thirteenth birthday, a year later, Botan and her mother arrived in Magical England and were astounded to find a letter waiting for her at their family home. Upon opening the letter, she was even more surprised to see a request for her attendance at a school of magic named Hogwarts. After much discussion from her mother, she was sent off to this school to learn the ways of non-spiritual magic, a type of magic different than what her father had instructed her in.
Though at first it was difficult, eventually she adjusted quite well and made a few friends. She would stay at the school during most of the year, returning during holidays and the summer to her family home and mother. She even managed to enchant a boat oar to fly upon, meeting up with the creatures of the sky that so reminded her of home. Time passed and, though she often missed her father, Botan was generally happy where she was at.
It seemed, however, that the fates had more in store for the young girl. Three years later, after meeting up with her mother for the summer holiday, a group of rogue wizards descended upon their magical village. These wizards plundered and destroyed all they could, including what people they dare came across. Seeking refuge in a near by bookstore, the two remaining Wakahisa women defended their haven with the shopkeeper only to inevitably meet their end in a blast of bright, blue light.
It was weeks after the event when Botan woke up, finding herself a ghost. She mourned for days for her lost mother, lost father and lost life. Upon the eight day of her mourning, she was approached by a spiritual guide, attempting to help her pass on. Botan refused at first, surprising the guide. In her grief, harsh words were spoken, many along the lines of how foolish the guide was for trying to take her away. Stunned, the guide disappeared.
Months passed, and eventually the grieving stopped. Upon the day it did, the same spiritual guide from before made himself known and, surprising Botan, offered her a job. A means to work to help those like her with their grief, to do something he had long forgotten how, to teach him once again what it meant to understand those he was supposed to help. With no other idea of what to do now that she was dead, Botan agreed.
Years passed, turning into centuries and Botan, as well as her guide, learned many things from each other. She had found herself growing accustomed to this new way of living, as she put it much to her senior guide's amusement. However, Botan felt she was growing a bit too accustomed to things. She was beginning to not understand the words those she helped spoke of. It was disheartening.
Relaying her fears to her fellow guide, he suggested that Botan would take time off from her duties and revisit with those of this new century. She would learn more of the new things that had happened, more of the mindset of those who were still alive. Nervous, though excited, she agreed to his life changing words once more.
She was now Hogwarts bound for a second time.
Blood: Half blood. (Pureblood mother and muggleborn father from Japan.)
Preferred House: Hufflepuff
Why you think they belong in this house? Botan's all over demenor and personality fits that of a Hufflepuff. She is patient and kind, loyal and true. She never takes the easy way out, and though she looks young - even for a ghost - she is skilled and knowledgable.

Hmm? Oh, hello there! So that's how this thing works...
[The soft sound of another book being shut can be heard.]
I'm Botan, a spirit and what some of you would call a Grim Reaper, as it were, and the new ghost for Hufflepuff! Pleased to meet you all!
Haha~ Now, I know some of you might have concerns about me being a Grim Reaper, but rest assured we do not kill that which is alive. We merely guide the souls to the correct place after death. As for why I happen to be here, at Hogwarts, well there is a rather simple answer to that...
I'm on a vacation! My first one in over 500 years!
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! It must be kind of unnerving to hear about a Grimp Reaper being about, so just think of me as a regular ol' spirit if it's better, okay?

Taking in a deep breath, an irrelevant deep breath, Botan smiled as she glanced about the court yard to Hogwarts. It almost looked as if nothing had changed in the past few centuries. In fact, if she squinted her eyes, and used a bit of imagination, she could almost picture her last school days here. She could almost see all of her past friends, studying and flying about, and hear their laughter and passing fragments of gossip.
But those days were in the past. She should know, she had helped most of their souls pass on after their death. She had been at most of their wakes and they had all been at hers. This wasn't the same Hogwarts she had left all those years ago. This was a new Hogwarts. With new students and a much longer history than the one she had known.
With a soft sigh, Botan shook her head and floated up the pathway towards the entrance. The past was the past and while Hogwarts may of been in her past, it was also now in her future. Where she was. Where she would stay.
