Hello Fellow Live journal users,
As much as I'd love to excite you all with a long entry of what my weekend consisted of, the events of what Farren, Nick, and I did on Friday and Saturday, as well as what Veronica, Farren, Lindsey and I did today will forever be a mystery.
Instead I would like to bring attention to the matter of stereotyping, and so called conformity. It's driving me crazy how certain people are saying "So-and-so is just doing this to be more like so-and-so" It's like you can't do anything these days without being criticized! It's everything, the music you listen to, the kind of clothes you wear, what you do in your spare time. Farren and I decided to try to learn how to skateboard. We weren't doing it to copy people, we were doing it because we really wanted to. I've wanted to since grade 5, I don't know how long Farren has but both of us wanted to but never had someone to teach us, nor did we have a skateboard. Veronica was helping to teach us, and she offered. So you losers who are saying "Oh Farren's just skateboarding because Nick's a skater" will you PLEASE stop? Originality can only go so far, you're bound to be doing the same thing as other people after a while. It just happens to be that at the moment skateboarding is the "cool thing to do" WHO CARES WHATS COOL OR NOT?! If someone were to start playing soccer for example, no ones going to go on about how that person is only doing this to be like one of the many people who do play soccer. Although suddenly, Farren decides to take up a sport and already people are pointing fingers at who's a copy cat. It's not copying, it's trying something new. So you're doing something your friends are doing, well one of the reasons you choose to be friends with someone is because you are similar, and similar people have the some of the same opinions and interests.
It's not just with Farren though, I can't even go two days wearing black without someone saying "What are you a punk/goth now all of a sudden?" Why do we categorize people so easily? I'm not a punk, my name's Ariel and I'm a person. Stop trying to put a title on everyone, judging people by what they wear, and the activities that they do, the friends they have or the music they listen to. Why do we have to have these titles anyways? Punk, Emo, Prep, Jock, Skater, Metal Head, Stoner, the list goes on and I really don't care. I don't even know where I fit under, and I don't want to fit under anything. I don't want to have a "group" that people think of me as. It's pointless and it bugs me.
Makes me mad that Farren's getting this when she didn't even do anything wrong. Stop "gossiping" about what someone does in their spare time. I have luckily avoided all of this bullshit, and so far that I know of, no ones said anything about me. I'm learning how to play guitar, learning to skate board, I listen to whatever the hell kind of music I want to, and wear what I want. I do it because I want to, not because I want to be someone. Don't label people, we're not objects.
