インプレッシブカミングアウト?!
And other stories of my ignorance when it comes to reading Japanese.
I promised to proofread a paper over the weekend, but I'm in a lazy mood right now, I'd rather spam and make Karyu a victim of my ignorance again.
I read his blog entry yesterday where he complained about cold weather etc. The last phrase was: 猫になりたい．．． Karyu wants to become what? I didn't know the kanji so I looked it up in a dictionary, but for some reason I read from the center of the page, not from left to right (like every literate person would do) and that means I read the second meaning first...
猫 【ねこ】 (n) (1) cat; (2) (ant: タチ) (uk) (col) submissive partner of a homosexual relationship;
...h-how bold of him .__. and how stupid of me xD
The other story is from a week ago when I started reading Rock and Read interview, in the introduction part I came across a word I couldn't find in any of my dictionaries: 激白. So I asked the students to explain the meaning. The answer was (said with a cutely horrible accent and giggles): impressive coming out. After we all stopped laughing, they explained that it's a stronger version of 告白 (confession). So I guess the right translation would be "dramatic confessions", though I'm sure his coming out would be quite impressive too.
At least now I'll remember those words very well. Maybe I'll go learn a few more kanji now, I'm not giving up yet, despite the stupid blunders like these ones xD
