IC Information:
Name: Alice Margatroid
Fandom: Toujou Project
Timeline: Imperishable Night
Age: Unknown. It should be noted that she's a fairly youthful Youkai.
Appearance: Alice’s looks can be quite deceiving. At first glance, she’s a frail girl with a petite frame and golden hair. The token girl of innocence with lace adornments and big eyes. Why, she might even have a doll in her arms at times.
Maybe a visual would be better? Abilities:YOUKAI: Alice wasn’t always a
Youkai - at one point in time, she was human. With lots of conditions to pass, it’s quite the achievement to become one.
MAGICIAN: Naturally, Alice falls under the classification of a
Magician and is capable of using magic to achieve her means.
FLIGHT: Like all Touhou characters, Alice is capable of flying through the air with great speed and precision. Weaving through danmaku and not getting tangled within her magical strings is worth a mention.
MELEE: Dexterity is her strong point - where she lacks in melee combat and with her frail body, she makes up for it with fixed attacks and literal traps. Preferring to win using strategies over pure power, she’ll conjure elaborate traps to feed her ego.
DANMAKU: Welcome to
Bullet Hell.
SPELL CARDS: Along with her usual magical ability, Alice is capable of using Spell Cards. She has several of them, so for the sake of keeping this app short, I’ll just link to some lists with explanations for what she might be capable of doing.
One,
Two, and
Three DOLLS: Alice uses her dolls for everything including combat, communication, and for her general amusement. Due to this, she’s very intricate with craftsmanship, being capable of creating clothing and weapons for their use. Furthermore, she can control them while remaining mobile herself. If that’s not all too frightening, imagine her using the dolls all differently. Some in melee, some using magic, and maybe a couple to prepare tea in advance for her victory celebration. She goes to great lengths to craft for her dolls and is capable of making
them very huge. Her goal is to make a fully sentient doll - despite the impression her dolls may give, they are fully controlled by her. Alice’s signature dolls are
Shanghai and
Hourai.
Personality: In short, Alice is probably a tsundere who just wants to sit at home, drink tea, and play dress up with her dollies. Alice is hardly a perfectionist, but she maintains a certain level of balance with oddities that often contradict other traits of her own. A prismatic array of characterization makes sense when you think about the beliefs she holds herself to - that the colors of the rainbow correlate with the levels of power in a person. With that, Alice proves her strength not only in her attire, but in how she displays herself towards others.
Upon first glance, one may see someone who’s lifeless and with little concern for the things happening around her. Initially, Alice is a loner who prefers the “company” of her own creations. Living by herself in a house deep within a forest is significant enough proof of that. Proper and hardly socially awkward, she puts her manners to good use by interacting with her dolls, playing out various roles between them. In fact, she does it so well that people often mistake the dolls as sentient with their own personalities.
Amusingly enough, her interaction with her dolls isn’t due to loneliness. Remember above all that Alice is perfectly content keeping to herself. No, it stems from the pride she has in her abilities and more importantly, the gratification she has in her craftsmanship. With the amount of work she carefully places in each doll (why she might fashion one a bit differently than the last or bestow a new weapon for an older doll), one can argue that there’s a softer side to the Magician.
Hidden underneath the wraps of lace and a distant gaze is ultimately a gentler nature that isn’t all too difficult to withdraw from the confines of her mind. To children and humans that show no malice, Alice tends to be friendlier. She might even invite them into her house and while she’s a hospitable hostess, she has no interest in engaging in conversation with her guests once they’re properly taken care of. It isn’t a matter of requiring a lesson in civility or being inept with communication, Alice just chooses to not get close to others and prefers her work well over any potential company.
Homely and spirited with her beliefs, Alice rather enjoys the luxuries that come with humanity even though she’s no longer one. It may be due to her young age as a Youkai or it could be an attempt to cling onto her humanity for as long as possible before adjusting. For example, she prefers to walk everywhere instead of flying even though the latter is much more efficient and quicker. She is prone to spending her time in areas that are populated by humans and as such, cater to their needs and desires. Comforts like tea and food are also a must. It should be noted that unlike other Youkai, Alice hasn’t developed a taste for human blood or flesh.
Against those that pose as a threat, Alice’s demeanor shifts into glacier levels. Cold and standoffish to an even higher degree, she’s prone to keep her distance both physically and emotionally. While in combat, she derives pleasure from formulating intricate traps and incredible strategies. Between her danmaku, spell cards, and puppeteer skills, one has to be capable of multitasking just as well as she can. Rarely does she ever fight an opponent with full power for it’s her belief that if she loses a battle while at full strength that she is utterly weak and absolutely no one is permitted to make her feel such. Her ego might be her biggest downfall, provided she’s up against the right opponent. Even though she tends to behave fairly mature, she’s not above childish insults or saying things to provoke another.
Expressive when alone or when her mental guard is down, Alice is more child-like in nature. When paired with Marisa, this immaturity seeps out and she becomes a lot more emotive. The rivalry between the two is easily seen. Their personalities are similar and yet contradictory all in the same sweep. Quick to judge others for herself, Alice may not always be right about the opposing party. Don’t expect her to confess to such easily though - she’ll deny it in favor of her pride and ego being inflated. With the right nerve struck, she might lose concentration and find herself stumbling on words although it’s uncertain if it’s due to nervousness or a subtle anger starting to flare up.
History: Once upon a time, Alice was a human girl who studied magic to the point of transcendence - with the right enlightenment, she was able to become a Youkai. Her past is well guarded for several reasons mostly having to do with her personality and therefore, not something fleshed out in canon. As a recluse, she chooses to not disclose past events with anyone, even those she may consider trust worthy. All that one can be sure of is that she became a Youkai at a young age due to her youthful appearance.
The first game this Alice appears in is ‘Perfect Cherry Blossom’ in which she’s a character who opposes the main one. Not only that, she’s mistaken as a weird human, even when she insists otherwise. As a playable character in the next game, Immaterial and Missing Power, Alice investigates the strange fog that’s covering the area the best way she knows how - beating up people who stand in her way and refuse to speak with her. She eventually makes it to the source and defeats them just as easily.
The last bit of history to discuss is that from Imperishable Night. Here Alice teams up with Marisa to investigate. From the beginning it’s clear that Marisa and Alice’s personality clash (yet they are so alike) as the two bicker. Together they show impressive teamwork as they dominate the first couple Youkai they come across. Unfortunately, the Magic Team is mistaken as Youkai themselves (technically half true considering Alice is one) by the protector of the village. With another victory and a lead in another direction, the girls take off in that direction. In the Bamboo Forest of the Lost, they encounter a team member of the opposing team, who accuses them of being at fault. Even when she tries to take the initiative, Marisa always overpowers her, leaving Alice to look more secondary in their interactions. Further investigation leads them through the eternal mansion and eventually to the final boss - the person who has created a fake moon. Working with Marisa helps Alice grow a bit more as a person, proving that the other girl is a beneficial part of her life.
Roleplay Sample - Log: White walls. White floors. White ceiling tiles. White scrubs. White sheets. White curtains. White lights. Everything about this place was lacking in color and if Alice Margatroid was capable of being driven to the point of insanity, she might have thought herself to have fallen too deep in this rabbit hole. Regardless of such, she finds ways to entertain herself. While her power is limited (it must be because of the unadorned establishment/prison she was confined to), she still is capable of performing the most basic of spells.
To conjure fire and bounce a ball between her fingers.
To create strings and jerk around objects as though they were lifeless forms (weren’t they though?) is entertaining enough.
She’s not fully alone here. In fact, it’s become sort of a game to see how many cretins in this place thought the real Alice to be a doll. Why, there’s even the theory that her soul is split between both Shanghai and Hourai. That was an entertaining thought that kept her allies busy. No, Alice didn’t have allies. What was she to call them then? Acquaintances? More like annoyances that interrupted her work, pilfered from her mediocre attempt at a second workshop, and spent most of their time arguing with her.
Life could be better. That’s why with the tug of her hands in different directions, both Shanghai and Hourai split down the corridor, moving with greater speed than she would ever choose for herself. They had a single purpose as their tiny hands held onto paintbrushes and their feet never threatening to touch the ground due to the pads underneath them. Together, they both left a path of bright colors, with the full intent of acquiring usually unwanted attention.
Roleplay Sample - Journal:[ Insert one unamused Seven Colored Puppeteer. Being forced into the white scrubs this place provides is embarrassing enough - an insult to the powers she controls, so she makes up for it with a beautiful floral arrangement within the golden locks of her hair. Just enough to balance it out with seven colors. Seven perfect colors.
So that can’t be why she’s angered for the very first time within this place. No, it’s never that simple. After a minute or two (time passes by slowly here) of a cold stare, she’ll begin to speak. ]
I find it interesting that anytime I leave my room that something is shifted out of place or has gone missing by time I return. [ No one gets away with messing with her belongings (whatever few she’s managed to procure in this place) and she’s ready to teach someone a lesson due to it. ] I didn’t think that because this is a place where one’s survival is the highest priority that it allowed people to behave as though they’re savages.
[ A dismissive scoff as she turns her gaze away from the device. No, she’s too upset with the thief to even give them the chance to look at her. ]
Until my belonging has returned to me, I’ve decided to invoke the golden rule. Do unto others what is done unto you.. isn’t that how it is? So each of you will find that there’s an item missing in every single room. Yes, every room. It wouldn’t be prudent of me to skip someone and have them miss out on this ire feeling you’ve invoked in me. Find the thief that’s taken from me and I’ll return all of your items where I found them. Refuse and I’ll host a bonfire in the Biodome soon enough.
This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function?
By sitting in her room by herself and sipping tea. I wish I could be joking... Alice is mature (physically and mentally) enough to handle the situations that will be placed upon her in this environment. If anything, some of the tests performed here may knock her ego down a bit or two or interest her greatly - in which case she’ll adapt to a more sinister side to fill her survival needs.
Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here.
I understand that Alice will be without her grimoire when she arrives, but I would like to request she comes in with her two signature dolls. My reasoning for this is when she uses her dolls, she can be considered bound to them in a way that makes them a part of her via magic. As she uses them in a manner of ways, it would be a major nerf to the character to not bring them in. If that’s not permissible, would it be alright to strike a deal with Val early on for them?
