Street Slang
Dear Editor:
Your editorials are usually well-reasoned and thoughtful opinions* on a variety of issues, both local and national, and I enjoy reading them. However, my joy dissipates every time I read the phrase "not for nothing," which seems to be happening more and more frequently. It is so jarring that it causes me to wince every time it assaults my eyes.
It an otherwise literate piece of writing, this insertion of street slang of dubious meaning has no place. I beg you in the name of all the nuns who labored to teach me proper English, please cease and desist.
