I have a second interview at Banana Republic today and I should know by tonight whether or not I have the job. Again, please pray for me. And if you don't believe in God, cross your fingers for me. "Luck be a lady tonight."
Anyways, a la Chuck Klosterman, I have figured out why the second X-Men movie is so much better than the first and the third. It is the same reason why The Empire Strikes Back was more popular than Star Wars and Return of the Jedi; it doesn't have a happy ending. Sure, all is not lost but Luke loses his hand, Han Solo is frozen in whatever the hell that stuff was, and the good side is not exactly winning. Same for X2. They stopped Xavier from killing everyone, but Magneto, with Pyro in tow, gets away, and Jean dies. The reason these not-so-happy endings make the movies more popular is that it leaves the audience yearning for more. Such is a great movie.
I might add, however, that X3 was also just horrible because of the gaping plot holes and poor characterization and not enough closure, and stupid Hollywood puns, and....I could go on for awhile but I'll spare you. Jackie and I discussed (aka ranted about) it enough already.
Peace Out homies ;)
