And while I'm still mourning for Frodo and clinging to grievous_angel someone please explain the appeal of Charlie/Claire to me. I don't get it. I have friended charlie_claire out of curiosity, but... but wtf!?
Charlie is a drug addict, at the very least, an egomaniac, kind of pompous, but he's cute and so far on the show he's been portrayed as being very sweet-- so, this gives rise to the desire that we all have that there's good, and not just any good, but real, true goodness in people who are usually shunned by polite society. Pretty Woman had a hooker with a heart of gold, many films portray theives and hit men as following a higher moral code. Goodness only knows what Charlie did to get his heroin, or what depths he would stoop to, but here, on the island, he gets a chance to be Good with a capital G.
Claire is really, really pretty. And really pregnant. Our tiny reptillian brains say "hey, she's obviously fertile," so we're meant to see her as attractive. She's got an air of mystery about her, since she's not married, and perhaps doesn't have a partner either-- she said "yes, how modern" to Charlie when he asked about the father.
So, so far we have Socially Questionable yet Cute and Sympathetic Charlie plus Pretty and Obviously Fertile Claire.
Then there's the taboo, that pregnant women are supposed to be off-limits in terms of sexuality and desire. Who loves a taboo more than fanfic writers? No one!
Then there's Charlie (Dom) with a baby. And they could be a happy little family forever and ever!
