so when you are driving in a car with your 10 year old niece and the following conversation takes place, how do you respond? cause i know my jaw dropping open in outrage and the incoherent objections that followed probably wasn't correct. here is the conversation:

niece: "am i a republican?"
auntie: "NO!"
sister (niece's mom):"you can be whatever you want to be when you get to old enough to make those decisions, but i don't really like it when we use labels, you should be independant and vote for who you want regardless of party."
niece: "cause opa says we are republicans."
auntie: "opa is full of crap because opa is a republican." (i am so eloquant am i not?)
niece: (to me) "are you a democrat?"
auntie: "yes, and while your mom has a valid point, there is no way in hell i will ever vote for a republican."
niece: "but john kerry was a democrat?"
auntie: "yes."
niece: "i could never vote for kerry, he kills babies."

then my jaw dropped, and i pretty much blacked out with rage and forgot the rest of the conversation. what would have been a better response?

nieces, rl, politics
