Update On Mama

Jul 15, 2008 19:50

I heard back from Aunt E. again about my beloved maternal parent. Seems she tried to get out of the recliner by herself, and got "stuck" halfway -- couldn't get out, couldn't sit back. Aunt E. called the night security man to help them and he called 911 and got the same guys from Sunday. They were very careful and considerate, helped Mama slide to the floor and then picked her up, waited while she used the bathroom and made sure she got back to her recliner ok. Thank God for these guys! I'm happy they're nice to old ladies -- may there be a few left when I'm one.

Apparently Mama's been up to talking to the neighbors who've dropped by to visit, which is a good sign. She'll probably try to get down to dinner tomorrow night, as long as she feels like she can do it without being too "conspicuous" (yeah, I know my mother). I hope she gets over the sore muscles from lying on a cold floor all night and crawling to try to reach the phone. She will soon I'm sure, and she had the pain meds for while she's doing it.

Of course you realize that after she's feeling better I'm going to ask her pointedly what happened to the "panic button" they're supposed to wear when they're home for just such emergencies. I don't know what she's going to say and I haven't asked Aunt E. yet but I can't wait to hear this one. I'm thinking of super-gluing it to her forehead. At least then when she falls on her face it'll hit the button.

I love my mother. *sigh*

health, family
