out of inn: the post comes through

Two owls show up for Regulus, in the flock of deliveries during breakfast. He recognises Narcissa's immediately, and frowns for a moment before realizing Echo is only carrying a letter at the moment. He takes the letter, feeds her a piece of bacon, and sends her on her way before the second, much plainer owl lands and deposits a magazine.

That's considerably more cheering than the letter, though he can guess at the letter's contents. The magazine means he can start flat-hunting now, and either minimize or eliminate the time he'll have to stay at Grimmauld Place after he leaves school. His mother will likely fuss a bit, but he can talk her down fairly easily. After all, it is for his own good.

He makes a mental note to ask Phineas how permanent of a sticking charm is holding his portrait to the wall, when he's home for Easter hols. Mother will worry far less if he's got a family heirloom along, particularly if it's one of the talking ones.

Narcissa's letter is more or less what Regulus expected; the majority of Bella's estate is through probate, including that cup Regulus had expressed an interest in over Christmas, and she'll be sending it within a few days.

It occurs to him, slightly too late, that he ought to have kept Echo around long enough to send a reply back; the cup's not the sort of thing he'd like delivered at breakfast, given the nature of the package. But that's the sort of thing he has his own owl for. In any case, they're making definite headway with this 'Voldemort's trail of cursed artifacts' business, even with likely having to recalibrate Selwyn's anagram charm.

It'll cut down on the available thrilling heroics for Sirius and Potter, but it's a much less messy process, in the end.
