There was something about the club that she realized she loved.

Was it the music? The wonderful, loping, throbbing, nonstop force that dealt with sound in abstract terms and was so very easy to dance to? She'd never heard anything like it before she'd found the Nexus, and now she found herself wondering why the hell her people hadn't thought of it first.

It could have been the lighting. Or lack thereof. Her world was eternally mood-lit and spangled with magical neon; Colored spots and lasers spiraling across the dance floor and stifled bar-lights seemed more normal to her than the Nexus' bright, friendly indirect glow.

But it was most probably the anonymity. Dim lights and loud music that turned everyone into amiable shadows that gave up their individual moods for a few hours to drink and dance and laugh and smoke. A crowd in the absolute best sense of the word. A crowd that she could get lost in and forget about her search for home for a while, and become just another wraith whose soul belonged to the beat.

She drew one leg up the side of the bar stool as she shifted in her seat. This club wasn't exclusive; anyone can pinpoint in and find her if they want to talk, or possibly dance...
