[Takato had been feeling the oddest urge all week to get out and do something.  He had avoided it for a while by exploring and drawing.  But now he couldn't resist anymore.  And that was why he was busily setting up a blanket in front of his apartment building and spreading out a number of hand drawn cards.  With a bright smile he sets up the ( Read more... )

[ Now what's this? Polka, now decked out with her new coat is feeling a good bit warmer. Tromping her way back to the Welcome Center, she paused at the set up, and wandered closer. ]

What's all this? [ A glance at the poster follows the question - digimon - hadn't she been told about those a little while ago? ]

Oh! A card game? How interesting! [ She hadn't played cards since Baroque. ]

Its lots of fun. All of my friends at home played it. I couldn't get the right cards here, but I drew out all the ones I remember and I think it should work.

[ Hrm. In a way, he reminded her of Beat. . .Polka smiles, kneeling at the edge of the blanket. ]

Well I suppose there isn't any harm in learning a new game. How do you play?

You have to pick a partner card first, and then build you deck.

A partner card? Oh, all right. Um... [ She peers at the cards a moment, and finally picks a card at random. ]

Like this? And... then I pick cards for the deck... so how many?

Mmm, you need about 50 cards. There are four different types, and you need a mix of all of them.

Wow, fifty? I've never played a card game with that big of a deck before. The most I've had in a hand was seven. [ Polka is good at maths, oh yes. So she collects cards while counting. And the drawings are so cute! ♥ ]

48... 49... 50! Okay, now what?

Okay, there are four different kinds of cards. The partner card is the most important. A Chosen card will make your digimon stronger. An evolution card will make it evolve if you have the right combination. And a modify card can create different effects.

Hmm... This is much more complicated then the card games I played with my mother...

Okay, so let's see... [ She looks thoughtfully at the cards, sorting them them into their individual categories. ] What sort of combination do I need to make my partner digimon card evolve?

It depends on the card. Some of them you just need to have the next higher evolution. Others you need a special card. You can tell by what's written on the card.
