This was going to be awkward, there was no doubt about it. There were not enough turtles in all the oceans to demonstrate the level of awkward this was going to be. Sam tried to keep telling himself that it was going to be better in the end, that they'd really communicate and get some things out and be closer for it. Somehow that didn't make it ( Read more... )

Cassie had been getting a jump on her reading for her classes, since she knew in about a month, or heck, sooner if she was honest with herself, she'd be far behind due to island hijinks, training and her usual boredom with reading.

And when she heard Sam's voice, she jumped up, quite happy for this distraction. She headed for the door and opened it to stand in the doorway. "Why, is that my handsome boyfriend coming to say hello?"

"It is, I passed your less handsome boyfriend on the way here and told him to get lost," Sam said, grinning as he stepped up to Cassie and pulled her close for a kiss. No matter how awkward this conversation was, he was always glad to see his girlfriend.

"So lucky you, you've got me all to yourself with no interruptions until Cissie gets back."

"Oh good. You did me a favor. He's been hanging around here lately and really getting on my nerves. Seriously, he doesn't get a clue." Cassie replied with a laugh as she wrapped her arms around his neck to return the kiss. She loved this, the easy banter they had.

Then she arched an eyebrow at him. "Oh? And exactly how lucky am I?" She asked, getting the hint that he had something on his mind.

"So very... very... lucky..." he murmured, every few works punctuated with another kiss. Cassie was good at reading his moods, and she obviously could tell that this wasn't just a casual visit.

"Remember at the last party, you said I could ask for anything I want, and I took a raincheck? Totally cashing that in right now."

Okay...Cassie was just getting more and more curious. The kisses were nice, but something was seriously up. It was a Wonder thing to notice these things.

Then Sam explained, and her eyebrows shot up and she cocked her head with a small grin...to hide her nerves. "Oh. Right. So, what'll it be?"

Sam pulled back at her, holding her at almost arms length so that he could look her in the eyes. With how much they kidded back and forth, he wanted her to know that he was serious about this.

"I want to talk about sex."

Cassie wished she was surprised, but she really wasn't, despite not really wanting to have this conversation. Yet, she knew it was inevitable so she just met his eyes and sighed.

"Alright. Come on in." She kissed his cheek then took his hand to lead him inside. She glared at Iris when the dog got up from her bed and started to growl. "No Iris. Stay there."

He was glad that she was taking this so well. He half expected her to find some excuse to not have the conversation right then. Worst case scenario, she would punch him in the face on accident and he'd have to go to the clinic.

Sam stepped in, glancing over at Iris before pointing to his eyes, then pointing to the dog. It was like the dog could sense what was going on.

"I just- I just need to get this all out, okay? At least this first part. Just- just know that I'm cool with waiting, okay? If it takes weeks, months, y-years for you, for us, to feel comfortable, that's okay. Alright? However long it takes us."

A super hero is supposed to be brave. And sometimes, being brave didn't mean facing down super villains, it meant facing down things she didn't want to face. Like this conversation.

Iris just growled again then dropped her head down between her paws, her eyes not leaving Sam for a moment.

Cassie moved over to take a seat on the couch like chair she'd gotten sometime over the years on the island and left enough room for Sam to sit beside her. She had a feeling this conversation would be better sitting.

Then she nodded, indicating she got it and he could go on.

Once he let it all out, Sam felt a lot better. To finally be talking about it, even if they didn't have some sort of agreement or resolution or anything, they were going to talk about it. More than anything, that's what Sam wanted.

Once he let it all out though, he wasn't sure where he wanted it to go. Or where it was supposed to go. He had said what he wanted to say, mostly, and now wasn't sure what was going on.

"I, uh, that's all I really had to say? Other than, um, I'll wait as long as we decide, I'm fine with that. But you are really, really hot and really, really sexy so while we're waiting sometimes I- it's just- you, ah, you affect me in certain ways. Physiologically. So if sometimes I want, um, space when things are maybe getting hot and heavy, it's nothing personal. Well, it's personal it's just not a bad thing. Oh god, please say something."

Cassie smiled a bit despite the nerves knotting her stomach. Her boyfriend was always good with the compliments and these were particularly nice.

She bit her lip, not sure exactly what to say. She knew how she effected him and she actually felt bad sometimes, like she was teasing him and he was getting no pay off. It had to be frustrating and it meant so much to her that he was willing to wait for her to be ready.

"I don't know what to do." The words came out in a rush and she blushed. "I mean...I don't know where to begin. With...uh...helping with that frustration."

It was embarrassing. She knew Sam had so much more experience then she did in this area, which wasn't saying much when she had absolutely none. As she'd become more okay with the idea of sex, not knowing where to start had kept her quiet.

Sam felt bad that Cassie felt like she was responsible for his situation. It wasn't something he was exactly happy about, but it was just how things were happening and he'd rather they waited until they were comfortable than rush things just so he didn't have to take as many cold showers.

"No, no, you don't have to do anything," Sam reassured her. "I just want you to know I want us to wait until we're both ready and comfortable."

Reaching out, he brushed his fingers along her cheek and gave her a smile.

"I'm crazy about you and you- you mean a lot to me. I don't want to do anything to make you uncomfortable or upset."

Cassie leaned into the touch on her cheek and marveled at how lucky she was to have such an understanding and patient guy like Sam in her life. She turned her head to kiss his palm.

"It's not so much that I'm uncomfortable or upset anymore..." She sighed and tried to find the words she was looking for to explain her situation. "I don't know if I'm ready to go...all the way, but I think I'm ready to try other things." Then she looked away, her cheeks coloring in embarrassment. "I've just never done anything like that so I have no idea where to start..."

Sam wasn't quite sure what she was talking about, he had a feeling that there was more to things than he knew about, like why she would be upset, but he didn't want to ruin their momentum by asking about them.

"Other thi- oh... OH!" he said, eyes going wide as he thought he understood what she was saying. "We- I mean- it's... well, just, you know, maybe just allowing like... touching of places. Any places. Exploring with touching. See how that goes. If you want there are, ah, not all the way things I could do to you. If you want to start there. Whenever we start."

Upset perhaps wasn't the right word but she'd just been parroting his words back at him to make his point.

Touching. Touching...didn't seem quite so scary. "That...doesn't sound so bad. Just touching. Maybe...you could show me?"

Sam realized that showing someone while not in the heat of the moment might seem rather awkward and technical. He hadn't planned on doing anything with Cassie immediately, but he could see any reason not to at least make out.

"This would be so much easier if you were high right now," he teased, moving closer. "But basically all that stuff you like to do when drunk or high? Do that. If you want my shirt off, you can just take it off."
