personality

Ichigo's personality has changed a lot since the beginning of the series, he has become more wise in the moves he makes and much more mature than in the beginning. Before though, Ichigo was a rude, loud punk who always wore a scowl on his face to seem mean or tough no thanks to being bullied for having such a strange hair color. He didn't respect his elders, and even now it is hard for anyone to get an honorific out of him. He also got into fights frequently, mostly with bullies. On the other hand though, Ichigo would have done anything to protect his family and friends and his tough exterior was mostly just an act.

He is also noted to be a prude, hiding away from anything sexual and often having outbursts to try to stop a subject from even going that direction.

Due to his mothers death on June 17th when he was nine years old, that time of year is particularly hard on Ichigo (even to this day) thanks to the guilt that he feels because he thinks her death is all his fault. Ichigo usually just smiles around this time of year, dropping his tough guy act and pretending to be normal in an attempt to seem alright (oblivious to the fact that it clues in to his discomfort even more than when he scowls). This event is definitely one of the most defining moments in Ichigo's life, because the act of his mother giving her life for his gave him the desire to protect everyone around him. Even strangers.

If Ichigo fails to win a battle or fails to prevent someone from getting hurt, he automatically feels like he failed his friends and sinks into a deep depression. When this happens, he will just lay on his bed and mope for hours and hours. But once he gets back into the show, a fierce determination appears to the point that it's almost frightening, at least to those fighting him. Another notable thing about Ichigo's determination and sense of justice is that he has no qualms with taking pound for pound, he has been seen taking an arm from someone who took another person's. While Ichigo may not like killing anybody, I believe he truly believes in the fight to the death and the honor of it, and he won't hesitate to kill if he has to. However, he does believe in a fair fight, and Ichigo will sacrifice himself to his enemy to make it fair as seen with his fight with Ulquiorra and his hollow.

One of his personality flaws comes from his desire to protect people, and often times Ichigo ends up getting himself hurt by charging in without thinking or caring about himself. His determination, while a great attribute, is also his greatest weakness. If provoked, it doesn't take much to get Ichigo to charge, and sometimes this can even lead to him making wrong assumptions.

Recently in canon however, Ichigo fought with his inner Hollow and Zangetsu, and when he returned his personality seemed to take on the changes mentioned above. He is calm, collected and even seems melancholy about the double edged blade he knows he has to walk. In order to finish off Aizen, he must use a technique that will completely take away his powers, therefore taking away the best thing he was ever given; his ability to protect the people he holds dear. Giving that up isn't something Ichigo wants to do, but he knows he has to in order to save everyone.
