Character Information
General
Canon Source: Kingdom Hearts
Canon Format: Video Game
Character's Name: Xemnas
Character's Age: AGELESS late 20s/early 30s? Ish?
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played. N/A
What form will your character's NV take? The NV looks like a
Yaksa Mag from Phantasy Star Online. Instead of being a pair of Mags, however, there will only be one. The main body is black with white Tron light lines, the two extra spur cuffs on the outer edges being silver. The cuffs also have an engraved line motif that includes the
Nobody insignia. It contains voice and video functions along with messaging system. Unlike the Mags, it doesn't need to be fed weird foods nor will it grow. Instead, it will float alongside, behind, or around the Superior because...he's the Superior. He doesn't need to hold onto anything.
Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
Better outline of abilities here. Out of all of the Organization members, Xemnas is the one who controls the element/attribute of...absolutely Nothing. As strange and illogical as it sounds, however, the nothingness comes in a form of something tangible. A sort of energy, more or less, potent enough to injure or fatally wound anyone/anything he fights against. It can change shape and consistency; for example, energy can be shaped into projectiles or stretched to form barriers. Said barriers can either block the opponent (wall), protect him from harm (sphere), or do harm to the opponent (sphere). Due to its odd and defiable nature, it can also be manipulated to let the Nobody phase through solid matter with ease.
His final forms, which are irrelevant for this section because the power of Kingdom Hearts is a cheatmode maneuver that leads to multiple end-boss fights, are still important. After his normal form fuses with the moon, he takes on three more incarnations: The Fortress (on a back of a mechanical, dragon-like beast), The Armor (which is basically Xemnas in armor, sitting on a throne with a huge sword while throwing all of the Nobody elements at his disposal at his opponents), and The Final Form (which is Xemnas in a coat bearing a design of black and white, symbolic of being in between everything). Again, these forms are not important if he is limited in this city. And he power floats. This will not be a daily occurrence. It will only be practical when someone needs to be rushed.
There is also his command over the minion-like
Dusks and
Sorcerer Nobodies, but that will also not happen here.
Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? N/A because that would be overkill.
Weapons: Although the Nobody has his awesome elemental powers, he is just as adept when dual-wielding sword-like (or maybe, more like blunt force) weapons called Aerial Ethereal Blades. They may look very much like a pair of red light sabers, but they do not cut through solid material and they come straight out of his hands. They just...appear, and can vary in length depending on the distance between the opponent and himself. In fact, he is quite skilled with these weapons; combat in general happens to be at the same level as all the research he was doing during his 'Somebody' days. Still, it tends to look like large glow sticks at a rave. On a more serious note, these weapons can also be used as projectiles. It is all the more dangerous once he uses said projectiles in multiples of a thousand in a dark dome encompassing everything and everyone within a plausible fighting range.
History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: Very little is known about Xemnas' past. Limited resources say he once use to be called Xehanort, a young man of unknown origins who was taken in by Ansem the Wise, the benevolent ruler and sage of Radiant Garden. He proved to be an adept learner in the sciences, and soon became the master's head apprentice. Under his tutelage, the study of the heart became one of their biggest projects. The ventures surrounding the heart and its mysteries broke the surface of a new sense wonder, growing into a strange sort of interest for the young Xehanort. It inspired him to delve deeper into the matter than his master ever dared to go. The experiments became more drastic as they started to focus solely on the darkness within a heart; in turn, the various test subjects were treated horribly before the darkness turned them into purebred (the "pureblood") Heartless. When Ansem found out there were experiments being done without his jurisdiction, he quickly put an end to them. This included any other ideas or thoughts about matters of the heart. Xehanort, however, continued testing these theories with the other assistant, using the master's name for all of their research. Ansem tried once more to make them cease their dangerous activities. Unfortunately for the master, the student proved to be stronger force. Blind to the onset of madness provided by the dark road, Xehanort and his accomplices had Ansem banished into the Realm of Nothingness.
The darkness that was once contained within Radiant Garden was released before quickly spreading to neighboring worlds.
Time wore on before he completely succumbed to the darkness, abandoning his given name for good. It brought forth two other identities: Ansem, the Seeker of Darkness-the Heartless, and Xemnas, Superior of the In-Between-the Nobody. With these sides, there was control over both the Heartless and the Nobodies. They had their differences-the Heartless were wild and rampant, instinctively searching and thriving on the hearts that fell into the dark; the Nobodies, on the other hand, were merely empty shells of whatever they were last, proving to be more intelligent but just as dangerous. Near the completion of the Seeker's Kingdom Hearts goals (which included the use of the keyblade and the princesses of heart), Xemnas took it upon himself to see how far things have progressed. After doing this and having a short trial test against the most current keyblade wielder, he confirmed his goal to unlock and harness the moon's power for his own purposes.
Of course, his goals would not fully coincide with the interests of the strong-willed Nobodies he gathered together. To make it work, he simply planted the suggestion of being whole again. With the Organization, he was going to need all of the hearts he could get to start his Whole New World order.
Meanwhile, the Organization as a whole fell apart.
Traitorous plans were set in motion, but they were either detected and shot down or forgotten over the course of time. Things definitely didn't go very smoothly with the Thirteenth member, Roxas. Although immediate obedience was present, denying the boy the answers to his questions led to more complications. He was the one who wielded the keyblade; losing their most valued player in gathering hearts was something Xemnas wasn't going to let go of so easily. Threatening to 'erase' the kid or any the other remaining Organization members also didn't fly too well with Number VIII (Axel-yes, him). This also went for the Fourteenth, unofficial member (Xion) and her existence faded from memory altogether.
But not all was lost. 'The Other' (Sora) had awoken again from his state of slumber, and he also bore the keyblade. With him, more hearts were collected without any trouble. And just to make sure everything was going as planned, Xemnas and the others decided to drop by in Hollow Bastion. After that shake-up, the heroic trio then went to back to each and every world to defeat the darkness, knocking down scores of Heartless. Xemnas continued sending the last of his associates to keep track of the boy while he watched his version of Kingdom Hearts come to fruition. What he did not expect was how fast each were taken down. His former master's attempts to foil his plans also added to the mess when he landed a successful hit upon the artificially-made Kingdom Hearts. Despite these problems, Xemnas went on to fight the keyblade wielder, losing against him before making the ultimate decision to merge with the moon. In doing so, he absorbed whatever power was left, putting Sora and his friend Riku through a series of impossibly awesome overkill fight sequences. They somehow manage to survive all of this, however, bringing the thunder as they epically defeated the Nobody in a justified manner.
And that was the end of Xemnas. (For something a little more comprehensible (?), go
here.)
Point in Canon: End of Kingdom Hearts II into The Wake-verse
Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: At some point in the middle of his original time frame, Xemnas initially left the ridge which overlooked the ravine populated with Heartless. His business in Hollow Bastion was short, but he needed to see how far the chaos and darkness spread among the world and its current citizens. But as he disappeared into a dark corridor to return to The World That Never Was, the path somehow ended up in the City of Nautilus. In short, he was Awakened. Awakened from his former state of Sleep, or the dreaming realm. He, among many others, learned of the initial calling of the ever-changing city. They were there to fulfill a deeper purpose for the city and other connecting worlds-even themselves. A higher level of existence was offered, but it needed to be earned.
...It sounded simple enough.
Unfortunately, the pacing of the city and all of its wonders (re: reality storms/events) added to the chaos the Wakened citizens brought with them, causing the Nobody to endure more than a year of nonexistent pain and insanity. Involvement was not what he had in mind. Between general observations of daily living and a large-scale war against the City of Glass, he somehow got caught in several hard-hitting storms, the worst being the one that
reset his memory back to the day when he first made his appearance in Nautilus. As soon as the storm reached its end, Xemnas fell away from his former status in the
most undignified manner, the history of his goals balancing on a fine line between
truth and slander (as told by Axel, no less),
breaking the Organization apart once more. Strained relations only
added to the maintenance his current loner status; as all of this took place, he somehow kept whatever few social connections he gained during his stay. Further events have not helped him get back what he so desired in the first place, and he discovered during a
short visit home that it would never happen. So he has plans to deal with it (sunglasses) and move on.
At least, this is what he says... (
The most recent development.)
Character Personality: Stoic is a good word to sum it all up. As a Nobody, it is common to lack the emotions a normal human being (or a 'somebody,' more or less) would bear; this type of 'person' is just a shell of their original form, after all.
Xemnas is the oldest of all the Nobodies and truly devoid of any emotions. He appears calm and serious, carrying a proud sort of air with commanding authority which instantaneously gains deep respect from his subordinates. The spiel about Nobodies having no 'feelings of the heart' was said over many times, but in reality, it seems Xemnas has forgotten each and every emotion known to man. The views he has on such are warped and distorted; having been exposed to the darkness, he sees the heart in a different light.
The bad outweighs the good. Anger. Envy. Hatred. The more negative, the better. With the strength of these combined, there was no need for the other emotions.
Much like the other Nobodies, Xemnas rarely mimics any normal human expressions to show he is fully capable of having some degree of humanity within him. Instead, most of these mannerisms tend to be acted out with grandiose motions, theatrical displays to get his point across to his audience all the while speaking in an almost deep, monotonous tone of voice. No matter how hard one can try coaxing an emotion of sorts out of the Nobody, he will react with heavy-handed indifference. This is probably open to change because he will be constantly interacting with people, old and new contacts alike. In fact, when it comes to old relations, an outside observer can note how emotionally distant he and his former Organization members really are. The rankings are easy to distinguish among the group, and the level of respect (or some kind of fear) is prominent. However, the old connections will inevitably bring about old grudges. However, more interaction means there's a chance of him having more life-like expressions. Or not. Only time will tell. Until then, words will continue to have empty meanings attached to them whether or not the conversation remains civil. It can also lead to more trouble if one is being difficult with the Superior; remorse, regret, or even forgiveness is not found in this Nobody's book. This usually means he'll proceed with whatever actions are necessary toward such a situation without another thought, good, bad, or worst.
Due to the fact he is the way he is, he tends to become a subject of ridicule out of context (it also depends on the party because some people in or outside of the circumstances know and remember that he is a serious threat and they better keep it in mind). However, Xemnas is not to be written off as an arrogant fool. He shared the scientific smarts with the other half and retains the knowledge he learned during the years he spent whole. His past memories were not as important, but that is besides the point. If he was simple-minded, then he wouldn't have created an Organization or set elaborate plans to use said Organization as tools to gather hearts so that he can artificially make and use a heart-shaped moon's ultimate power all for himself. In fact, he's intelligent enough to surround himself with naive yet strong-willed Nobodies so he can easily order them into doing what he wants done. Manipulation is never easy, but it helps get the others moving for his own benefit. Watch, learn, and find flaws. Then everything will improve within his perfect but limited perspective. Of course, those who challenge his power fall into the same circumstances as explained above. That never ends well for either of them.
Conditional: Personality development in previous game: In the city of change, it is impossible to stay within the mindset he started off with. Although Xemnas resisted any of these changes and opportunities to make himself a better 'person,' the development in his serious personality is subtle. There are times when the hollowness in meanings become dry responses. When one hangs around (or deals) with those who out-rightly disrespect authoritative figures and drip sarcasm on a daily basis, it is very easy to pick up.
However, he reserves this brand of sarcasm for the most 'special' of 'friends,' disregarding whether or not they are on 'good' terms with each other. On the other hand, outbursts of real emotion have not made any show at all...but it is probably for the better. A year may be long, but it is still too short a time span for any major character development to take hold.
The First's attachments are few, but they have also left an impression on him he cannot bring himself to understand fully (
as shown here). Those who have gone are gone.
They should not matter to him. The others are still there, but how long will they last? He does not care. Despite what he thinks, a faint voice keeps telling him to carefully keep this in mind. But lately, his obsession with power is gaining slow resurgence on his agenda. He has the will. He can bring forth more change. And no matter how bad a situation gets, he will still be a formidable ally...or foe.
Character Plans: To take back what is rightfully his-power, respect, and more power. To own the world. One thing at a time will suffice.
Appearance:
Some visual reference. The theme is black: boots, gloves, slacks, top-a chic sort of uniformity. The Organization coat is the most distinct, with its silver trimmings and chains contrasting sharply against the leathery material. The hood envelops the wearer's head fully, keeping all facial features hidden within its shadows. Maintaining this air of mystery, a certain anonymity, is important; the cool intimidation factor is set in place. In this manner, the reveal is much more effective. Long silver-white hair falls down to about middle of the Nobody's back, bangs framing stern, gold/amber/copper-colored eyes (one of those). Against dark skin, these features are striking to the viewer-in short, he becomes the very definition of 'tall, dark, and handsome.' Then again, looks aren't everything.
Writing Samples
First Person Sample: [Nothingness. It is the absence of color, of light, of anything in any shape or form. It is what appears first as the red dot in the lower right-hand corner turns on, contrasting sharply against the black. The silence gains an ambiance similar to what has been heard all this time as something steps forth, the shadows readjusting, twisting, fluctuating, merging and breaking away from the wall of solidity it once had.
Not just something, however. It's someone.
No one.
Out of the darkness...and into the light.
The hooded figure in the black coat now stands alone, in frame, as the shadows close behind him. There is no immediate reaction to the surroundings. Background noises continue over this as the 'person' stands there, perfectly still. It almost looks like the video feed has frozen for a minute or two. A gloved hand then rises without warning, poised, held out in front of the body with the palm facing upward. Again, seconds pass.
The silent tension is finally broken as the hand slowly closes into a hardened fist.
The figure tilts his head upward, the lower half of his face barely visible within the camera shot.]
...This is not the city I was taken into. This is not the world I once came from.
Whether it matters or not, the choice has been made. And I am now here.
Third Person Sample: Very little could be done to make everything better. And for a Nobody without a heart, the chances of this so-called betterment ever happening continued to fall within the more negative level of thought. Xemnas stared down the darkened streets, following the vanishing pathways up and onto the traces of unfamiliar city skyline. The darker tones were more appropriate to his 'tastes,' its bleak atmosphere almost matching the very city within the World That Never Was.
But it was not home.
Gone were the pristine white buildings interspersed with dark skyscrapers, metal spirals, and lush forest landscapes. No snow. No fog. Everything was closer together here, tight and compact, just like the Manhattan section of Nautilus' Eastern District. These things were back in a world he once came from, one that he Awoke in, the one he stayed in after his fate was ultimately sealed in Sleep.
Apparently this was not a dream, either.
The First continued to stand there, surrounded by the city and its sub-par dwellings. The longer he stared out at everything, the colder his gaze became. He still lacked the proper reaction for this...change. None of this brought up any kind of emotion of any sort. But there was not much else to do except embrace the fact he was still existing. Xemnas' features remained shadowed by the hood that covered his head as he came to this conclusion, stepping forth without hesitation. The intensity of his aloofness put off those who were to greet him.
And yet he did not care.
