[blood in, blood out] blood is all that counts...

She only had to ask and she knew everything.

She ran into Terry before she found her phone to ring Sebastian, and a typically bothersome conversation proved helpful when Terry offered to look into the strange young woman Valkyrie had met online.

She was on a plane before Terry could even bring her any updates...she at least, however, had the courtesy to leave Terry a note and Baileigh a voicemail. Whatever the neurotic little ninny was on about, traipsing across the country, she knew it was the fastest way for anyone to locate her in a pinch...this time, it didn't matter if anyone knew where she was.

The hardest thing about this venture was returning to Detroit...a thing she swore she'd only do in a body bag. She'd spoken to Cain about using the house, getting his consent and the keys before she left town. Seeing the house itself wasn't quite as hard as she imagined...for all it helped, she had a few memories there that weren't entirely horrible.

It was walking the streets that was the worst...the same streets she fled to when she was no longer taking to her bed after one of Father's temper fits. The same streets that promised safety and strength, and gave her nothing.

Maisy's hadn't changed a lick, and Val found herself taking a small measure of comfort in that. The place was still as rundown as ever outside, and just as cozy inside...heat blazing against the first snow of the season. The handful of tables scattered around inside the coffee shop were all full, as was the norm...and the occupant of one such table was recognizable without even an introduction.

The family resemblance was more than a little scary.

Walking across the cafe, Val didn't bother to ask before taking a seat across from Amelia Valhalla Steed. Removing her gloves, scarf, and jacket, she set them all aside before giving her sister her full attention.

"You're a dead ringer for mum...a wonder Dad ever found out she was shagging someone else."
