Nick Hornby is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. As justification for that, i submit these three
"I'm beginning to feel more embarrassed about the conversation than about anything we've just done. Horny? They really use that word? Jesus. All my life I've wanted to go to bed with an American, and now I have, and I'm beginning to see why people don't do it more often. Apart from Americans, that is, who probably go to bed with Americans all the time."
"We hate Simple Minds. They were number one in our Top Five Bands or Musicians Who Will Have to Be Shot Come the Musical Revolution. (Micheal Bolton, U2, Bryan Adams, and, surprise surprise, Genesis were tucked in behind them. Barry wanted to shoot the Beatles, but I pointed out that someone had already done it.)"
"As a result of Marie LaSalle's cover version of "Baby, I Love Your Way" ("I know I'm not supposed to like that song, but I do," she says with a cheeky smile when she's finished), I find myself in two apparently contradictory states: a) I suddenly miss Laura with a passion that has been entirely absent for the last four days, and b) I fall in love with Marie LaSalle.
These things happen. They happen to men, at any rate. Or to this particular man."
from High Fidelity. (Yes, the movie is based on this book)
also, cnn.com has an interesting story about a guy who is accusing the Catholic Church of breaking an Italian law against publishing false information by claiming that Jesus existed. Which means that the Church has to prove in court that Jesus did exist. (actually, it shouldn't be too hard, there's a few references to him from roman and jewish authorities...there's not really any scholarly doubt that he existed. still, it's interesting).
