To whomever is spamming my IM address with the news that my friends pages have been hacked then taking me to a spam site, please stop. It isn't funny and it's irritating. Also, it has a very short list of who it could be since the two journals do not RP at the same spot. I leave my contact information up as a courtesy because I think people can act

How does this happen? I've heard that there are a lot of people that are getting hacked into and that LJ has IP addresses. What does that mean? How can I find out if people are trying to do funny things into my journal?

I'm so confused on how all of this works.

I'm about the last person to ask. I pretty much suck at all things technical. I can only just manage basic html. As far as IP addresses go, if you turn on your comment settings to track everyone's IP, you can see who's got the same addresses, so if someone's spamming your journal, you can tell if it's a certain person, whether they're posting from one journal or another, I think? I dunno, I only allow registered users onto my RP journals anyway.

It's really not that interesting, I must leave it on as a reflex, since I have my regular journal open to anonymous comments. I've looked at the IP addresses once or twice but all I see is really long string of numbers.
