JAMC

Daniel Robert Epstein (of suicidegirls.com): Even after you guys were signed you were still doing DIY stuff like handing out flyers. What you think it was necessary to keep doing that stuff?

Mat Devine: On one hand we work our asses off and we always have. We've seen too many bands of making the mistake of slacking once they get signed. I think there is a popular misconception that labels take care of everything. It's not that simple. We've only gotten to where we are by doing the hard work we've done. We're tireless, restless and as far as I know we're the hardest working band in Chicago and there is no reason that should stop because we got our deal. Everyday is another chance to turn on new people.

Mat: (of the old recordings) ...I think its probably just about following your unrealistic dreams and getting out of your town if it makes you sick. -If it really stalls your progress.
James: Kinda like Clark Kent in Smallville. he's eventually gonna go to Metropolis 'cos Smallville doesn't have enough to offer him.
Mat: Yea, kinda just like that. I'm sure it rains all the time in Smallville.
But yeah it was written during that period -nine months out of the year in Chicago when its just black all day long.

i'm always chasing inspiration. the best music comes to me when i'm enjoying life, and the best lyrics come to me when i want to die.

I can see why KH would do 'rebel yell,' great song, lots of energy.
I think in the end it all comes down to how seriously you want something, because there is no path of least resistance for things like this. Every day, you get up, you work hard, and you think about what you're going to do tomorrow; if not, you might as well stay asleep, you might as well have done nothing at all.
