[ Character's Name ] : Fahrenheit
[ Character's Age ] : Unknown (100+)
[ Series ] : Vampire Doll
[ Canon Point ] : End of series.

[ History ] :
Fahrenheit appears in the fifth volume of Vampire Doll and makes a brief cameo in the sixth (and final) volume as well. As a young man, he lived as a nomad in the desert alongside his best friend, Dune. The most painful decision of his life came when he left Dune to become a shinigami. For the next hundred years, Fahrenheit felt guilty and held deep regret for leaving without saying goodbye.

A child he was assigned to reap inspired him to break shinigami law and go to the human world in search of Dune. He was punished with horns, branded a devil and instructed to reap a powerful vampire as penance. The child, Moegi, lived her life using Fahrenheit's body. With the ability to change his appearance, Fahrenheit's personality was dormant until Dune was found attending Mitsuhachi Academy.

When the target vampire was found, Fahrenheit refused to take his soul after discovering he was a good person. Dune and Fahrenheit were reunited, and the punishment was removed from Fahrenheit's body.

More detail can be found by reading Vampire Doll.

[ Personality ] :
After a very young Moegi starts to cry when told she is dead, Fahrenheit takes on her appearance to comfort her. He is blunt at first, but he tries to be sympathetic to those he reaps. He keeps Moegi's soul safe. He respects Moegi a great deal, and lives alongside her peacefully, despite the ultra-feminine piano and knitting lessons. She is unaware of his presence, and attributes the blanks in her memory from when Fahrenheit is in control to passing out due to her poor health. Fahrenheit likely remains silent so Moegi can live a normal life. In reality, Fahrenheit's body is in perfect health.

Before becoming a shinigami, Fahrenheit's best friend comments that it's ironic that someone with his personality (kind-hearted and gentle) would become a shinigami. Fahrenheit is physically large and appears frightening, but has the demeanor of a kind and loyal dog. He is quite sensitive, and cherishes those who are close to him.

He becomes friends with Tonae, who sees his true form despite the camouflage of a classmate. Tonae describes "Moe-chan" as being feminine and kind. Fahrenheit enjoys Moegi's habit of knitting, and uses this skill to give hand-made Valentine gifts to Dune. Having lived ten years sharing his body with a young girl, Fahrenheit sometimes exhibits Moegi's traits, such as blushing. Wearing the school uniform of a young girl clearly doesn't affect his sense of masculinity.

After Fahrenheit's punishment is removed, he acts as an adult chaperon on a camping trip, where his comments show his love for nature. As a former nomad of the desert, plant life is especially appreciated. He's very polite, as demonstrated by commenting that burnt curry made by one of the girls is fine. His lonely existence as a shinigami gave him a heartfelt appreciation for the efforts of others. No longer punishing himself out of guilt for leaving Dune, Fahrenheit makes himself known to Moegi, and they are once again good friends.

✰Relationship with Moegi✰
Shinigami live for a very long time. Guilt-na-Zan describes a human lifetime as 'a blink of an eye' to them. The ten years he lives with Moegi might seem like a long time, but his intention was to have her live an average human lifespan using his body, so it was not even a small percentage of how much time Fahrenheit was willing to dedicate to her. While Fahrenheit sometimes takes over their life while searching for Dune, he respects Moegi's decisions and doesn't even blow off her lessons, but goes through them as if they were his own. Normally, Moegi is moving their body, so the fact is that Fahrenheit has literally lived ten years as a teenage girl.

Moegi is Fahrenheit's oasis. While he was suffering guilt from leaving behind his best friend, her determination to live, and watching her live every day brought him solace.

✰Relationship with Dune✰
This is the central person in Fahrenheit's life despite being apart for over a century. Looking for Dune once he is able to apologize was the only time Fahrenheit interfered with Moegi's life. A classmate comments that when Dune first sees Fahrenheit, his instinct is to embrace him. His pride prevents it initially, but when they are come together again at last, Fahrenheit is at peace. He is no longer a silent mystery to Moegi, but actively lives alongside her.

[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Fahrenheit's loyalty is both his best and worst trait. He suffers loneliness and guilt due to his attachment to Dune. Like Hachi, Fahrenheit is the type who would wait in the same spot for years if someone he cared for passed away.

His morals are tuned away from selfishness. Rather than end his punishment by reaping Guilt-na-Zan, the king of vampires, he decided to stay under duress because he believed Guilt-na-Zan was a good person. Although doing that kept him from his ultimate goal of meeting Dune again, and even though he had already broken shinigami rules to achieve that goal, he would never hurt someone who didn't deserve it.

More on the subject of selflessness: a shinigami could have kept Moegi's soul asleep and still used it to travel to the human world. But instead, Fahrenheit gave Moegi a life by handing over control of his body to her. He misses out on having free will for ten years, but it was the right thing to do, to him.

Physically, he is remarkably strong, and agile. To be considered a threat by the notorious vampire king, he must be able to wield a scythe with more skill than the average human swordsman. An enemy would see his compassion as a weakness. He is entirely the type of fighter who would jump into a bullet if it meant saving an innocent.

[ Other Important Facts ] :
  • Capable of shape-shifting.
  • Very, very long lifespan.

    [ Sample ] :
Fahrenheit adjusted the magazine, held to his broad chest, and ripped open its plastic sheath. He couldn't wait to see what the secret sample was this month. Despite being on a public sidewalk, it was too long a trip to wait until he returned to Moegi's home for a bit of privacy. His footsteps slowed as his eyes settled on the cover.

    So beautiful!

A glazed expression of anticipation settled on his face as he daydreamed about what he would soon do with the content. Fahrenheit flipped through its pages greedily, colours and lovely ladies flashing in front of his eyes. A quiet gasp escaped when he saw the centerfold. Standing in the middle of the sidewalk as he was, dressed head to toe in black, a few people stared.

    "Gothic Lolita Hello Kitty?!"

Fahrenheit was shocked. A new anigumi pattern, with white, pink and black yarn to get the project started, was exactly what he looked forward to in each issue of We Knit!. But wasn't this a little...mundane? It was just a white cat in a black dress! With...a...bow. Did that make all the difference?

He stared at the picture for a few more minutes, holding the magazine sideways. Eventually, he sighed and closed the matte pages, and decided that while the allure of Hello Kitty escaped him, he would complete the project anyway and mail a photograph to We Knit!'s office like he did every month for their fan contest. One day...he would win that over-sized stuffed penguin.
