Boston Foodie Review

Spent a few days in Boston this week (my brother lives there, his 3-year-old son just had heart surgery, so couldn't travel).

Checked out a few restaurants while there.

First up was a little place called Sabur.
Nice little Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern place. Beaten brass tabletops, open firepit for cooking lamb, gorgeous ambiance.
Bread served with spiced olive oil - definitely some garlic and pepper in there, possibly something more. Quite tasty.
Very nice Cote du Rhone, if I recall the wine correctly.
For an entree, I chose the seared scallops with crabmeat polenta in a truffle sauce. A little unbalanced - could've done with one more scallop, the polenta/scallop ratio was a little high - but very tasty. Scallops were done to perfection, the polenta was lightly fried and very nice.

Next up, for my mother's birthday, we tried Gran Gusto. Entree was a special, gnocchi with shrimp, baby clams, and mushrooms in garlic/olive oil sauce. Very well done, quite tasty. I couldn't stop eating. Dessert was a chocolate cake (a little dry, but clearly done with high-quality chocolate, dusted with a bit of powdered sugar and a scoop of hazelnut gelato that was -very- tasty.

Finally, for New Years' Eve, we went to a little dive called The Summer Shack.
The ginger lobster potstickers were incredible, I wish I could've just made a meal of that.
Ordered a platter of fried oysters instead, and they were pretty darn good, too. Dad had fried clams (it's hard to find full-belly clams in a restaurant when you're not on the coast...) and said he thought they were a bit greasy. Was a bit disappointed with the wine, so stuck to coke for the evening.

Still, I'd probably go back to any of the three, especially if someone else was paying. :)
