[OOM] Daddy Issues: Take I

Oct 08, 2006 18:37

Lately, work hadn't been much of an issue for Chase. He'd go in, give his two cents, get berated by House, provide the sarcasm needed in reply to his co-worker's statements, and overall have a rather routinely day at Princeton Plainsboro.

It was when he went back to his apartment, and settled into bed that things became an issue. The fact of the matter was: as much as Chase tried to ignore it, he had never reconciled with his father, now dead. He hadn't even visited his gravestone. Hadn't even...bothered to say a prayer to him, for his own selfish personal reasons.

Rubbing his face, Chase sat up, swinging his legs over the side of the bed and groaned. If he couldn't cope with these issues soon, he knew it would soon start to affect him at work. House was probably already beginning to suspect that something was up. The young man knew he could only hide the charade for so long (and he had thus far been keeping up his appearances very well).

Some days it was worse than others, of course, as it was for any sane human being. When he was working, or not sleeping at all, he could quickly forget about his father and the man's neglect, and his inconsideration for his own son's feelings. Was this what he wanted? To make him, his only son, feel guilty until the day he died?

Why his father never told him he was dying was still beyond him.

After all, Chase--Robert--was his son. Sure, they had their differences, but this situation was incomparable. This was a matter of life and death--literally--and Rowan couldn't even bring himself to inform his son about it. Pride and past aside, Chase knew he would...do something for his father. He would.

Would.

Wouldn't he?
