Gotham City, New Jersey - Late Wednesday Night

"So much for your prophecy," Batwoman said, letting the steel heel in her boot do the work knocking the teeth out of the lizard creature's mouth.

Flipping over one of the pews in the church, she knocked another man out. One of many already taken care of.

"I've always felt that people should take responsibility for their actions," She continued, looking over the scene for anyone still ready to fight. "Not excuse them by denying there was any choice in the matter."

"Then you are a fool," a deep voice spit from behind her. "Because the word will not be denied!" The man in the business suit grinned cruelly as he pulled the trigger and sent a burst of blue energy slamming into Batwoman.

Batwoman went down, not expecting the attack from behind. Stupid rookie mistake, she was certain.

"Prophecy is upon you," the snarling voice continued as he picked up her still-twitching form by the throat and began to squeeze. "With your death Intergang's feast will truly begin." Both his hands were locked around her throat and his voice rose maniacally, "I shall devour you, just as the red rock of rage shall devour all of Gotham!"

"So it has been written! And so it shall come to pass!"

"Too bad for you--" She dug her fingers into his wrists to no avail. "--we're working off a different text."

The grip around her throat didn't relax, and the voice still sounded crazy, but now it was confused too. "'We'?"

"She means us." Renee couldn't help the smirk as she trained the gun on him. "Now put the Batwoman down or else we'll have to vaporize your ugly ass."

One hand slipped away from Batwoman's throat as the big Mannheim's eyes widened. "The Questions," he whispered in disbelief.

"No..." his voice began to rise in fury, "No! You can't be here... Not yet!" He spun and threw Batwoman directly at Renee and her gun as he roared, "The Questions have not yet been answered!"

"Look out--" Charlie started to yell the warning as he dived out of the way.

"Don't move-- Don't--!" Renee dived to the other way, trying to keep her aim on him as she avoided Batwoman.

Who landed easily and turned to get at the man who threw her.

"--let him get away." Renee sighed as he was no longer there. "I hate it when they do that."

"Tell me about it," Batwoman said dryly.
