If you were accosted by someone acting on my instructions the other day I apologize, but I was completely cursed. I wouldn't be that obvious do anything like that without good reason. The Police are here to serve the interests of the citizens, not themselves or the state. In an ideal world. The amusement park seems nice, but I hope that everyone' ( Read more... )

I've been looking for references on the network regarding the headless bodies, but nothing useful so far. I'll update you if anything does come up.

As for the vigilante attack, I've been coordinating with Leia (with Lieutenant Hawkeye's permission) to track his network activity and correspondence. If we're not able to find anything useful, we may consider taking things a step further and investigating his living quarters directly.

[ooc: Heading to bed now and will reply in the AM, but I wanted to tag here while I was thinking about it. George is always welcome to mod any information she needs to have obtained from Tosh's work at any time, btw. :)]

Thanks. I haven't heard anything either, so hopefully this won't go too far. We don't need another serial killer on our hands.

If you make a visit, I'm coming with you. It's not that I don't trust you two, but it's my job and I kind of miss the hands-on stuff.

No we don't. I suppose if it's limited to just the two, it could turn out to be some strange kind of accident.

Understood, on both counts. I was starting to miss that sort of thing myself, back before I got sent home.

Unfortunately, if we tried to investigate anyone who was killed in this city we'd never get anything done. Two bodies is suspicious, but not a big enough threat to warrant too much attention.

Once bureaucracy gets it's hands on you it's hard to get out again. On the plus side, with rank comes the ability to make a nuisance of yourself in other people's investigations.

I can set up a program to track similarities in death and disappearance reports. At least that way we'd be alerted quickly if there seemed to be markings of a serial killer.

Well, I started out in a support role, Jack just put me on more filed assignments as time went on. Sort of gets into your blood once you start, I think.

Um, I was wondering...do you think the force could spare me for the weekend?

If you could, that would be amazing. Thanks.

I've always preferred field work, but I've gotten used to being in charge and that usually results in a need for delegation. No one likes a micromanaging boss.

Unless something urgent comes up, I don't see why not. Of course, the last time I took a weekend vacation all kind of shit hit the fan. What did you have planned, if you don't mind me asking?

Oh, it's no trouble. I can easily modify one of the tracking programs we used on Rift activity back home.

Well, for what it's worth, I've enjoyed working for you. Though I can understand why you'd want to get your hand back in now and then.

Of course, I'm not planning on going radio silent or anything. Tony's going to take me camping.

I thought about asking what the Rift was, but would I understand the answer?

Thanks, I've had to get used to it. First female and youngest Deputy Director of the FBI? People were just waiting for me to fail. Much the same as it is here, I suppose.

In the forest?

Oh sure, I don't see why not. It's basically a tear in the fabric of Time. Like an accidental portal, and it gives off a lot of energy and sometimes drops things or people into our time.

I bet they were. And bet you gave you them a hell of a disappointment.

I'm not sure, honestly. I'm sure he'll pick someplace safe though.

Interesting, if a bit more scifi than I've ever dealt with.

I try.

Well, for the record, I recommend a nice secluded spot on the beach.

Me too, when I started out. But it's kept pretty secret, so there aren't too many people in our world who know about it.

I'll suggest the beach to him. Aren't there some little islands or something out there too?

Perhaps we come from the same world and don't even know it, then.

Yes, although you never know what you'll find out there.

I suppose it's possible. I have to admit, I have no idea who's in charge of the FBI or anything. Mostly we deal with UNIT and occasionally the PM, and that's Jack's thing to take care of anyway.

You know, I'm nervy enough about the camping idea as it is, maybe I'll just go with your beach suggestion.

That's understandable. We deal with mostly domestic crimes, international is the CIA's job. And believe me, inter-departmental politics are not a thing I miss.

What are you worried about?

Well when you go home, if you can remember, check and see if anyone in your government seems to have an unusual amount of business with Cardiff.

Cannibals.

Cardiff? Never heard of it.

Ah. I wish I could say that you're unlikely to find any, but...
